I'm running CM 6.1.0 alpha 7.5

It's such an improvement over the stock android 2.1 isn't it!

And BTW, alpha 8 is out for the spica now :D:

New :
Camera color preview from vflashbirdv
Some HW accelerated video playback from vflashbirdv
APN bug fix
Some ext4 tweaks

Hopefully will soon be able to play youtube videos in high quality and it will be a beta.

Also what is the browsing speed like compared to 2.1 for the default browser?

Where are are you guys grabbing the CM for spica from? And what improvements does it bring over current samdroid kitchen? Going to be giving my Spica to my brother and want to make sure it's up to date...

This is for the developers mainly, to post any updates, patches etc. for CM 2.2:

http://forum.samdroid.net/f53/cyanogenmod-6-1-0-spica-alpha8-3368/

This is for the discussion of CM 2.2:

http://forum.samdroid.net/f56/cyanogenmod-6-1-0-spica-alpha8-discussion-feedback-bug-reports-3370/

And of course you have got your clean stock android, purely written for the spica by leshak:

http://forum.samdroid.net/f56/samdroidmod-2-0-1-alpha-8-5-froyo-aosp-i5700-discussion-3401/

The CM 2.2 isn't officially supported by the team, the features etc. are just being ported over from other devices, saying that though everything seems to be working really well and is suppose to be very fast, even quicker than samdroid frozen eclair.

Also the samdroid kitchen is just 2.1 and it is pretty crap compared to frozen eclair, CM is 2.2 as well as the clean stock one obviously, so you got certain apps that will work with it amongst other features compared to 2.1.

However the 2.2 projects have been updated very often within the last few months, like at least 2-4 new updates are released within a week as they where originally stuck on the audio problem and now are a tiny bit stuck on the youtube HQ/divx problem, but it is no where as bad as what the audio problem was. So hopefully we should get that working within the next few weeks and it will then be a beta version :D and supposedly it will then officially be supported by the CM team :D

****EDIT:****

Also you get better drivers like the sound drivers, battery drivers (for the 1% and more linear metering), and tom3q should be releasing his 2D and 3D drivers soonish, which even in the very early alpha stages was showing a huge improvement over the stock xxxx samsung ones :D, amongst other fixes for the GPS etc.

So really need to keep an eye on it everyday for updates etc. :)

And also the samdroid kitchen will not have all the latest fixes and improvements compared to CM.

*****EDIT 2:****

I also forgot to mention about the amazing new recovery system, which has a number of new features and some are very very cool! :p

I really should put CM 2.2 on now, shouldn't I :p

:D

Also skyfall, once you get CM successfully installed, booted and all set up, could you try out just the default browser and let me know what the speed is like compared to what you had before.

Thanks.

Make sure it's alpha 8 for the CM as that was only uploaded yesterday.

And for the stock one it should be alpha 8.5.
I'll check for that, I definitely prefer the samsung camera app but I'm getting some strange things with CM 8, like colours in the notification bar going all purple when anything moves up there, gps doesn't appear to work and phone wont autorotate, It's not the latest one I've used though so I'll do another update and see if that's any better.

On the up side quadrant benched 200 with the samdroid mod even with the optimized calculators etc and CM has just done 400 :)

It seems a bit snappier and multitouch seems to be a bit more responsive in it too.

Yeah, personally I really like the look of the stock camera app :o, although I think the people there are using the MUIU camera (first post of thread) as apparently it is quicker, better looking photos or something.

Also hopefully will be able to get the HTC sense camera UI instead, which looks far better than both :D:

http://forum.samdroid.net/f38/htc-camera-spica-why-not-2741/

And also, those problems that you have mentioned should be fixed by now, although think there is still some problems with the auto-rotate getting stuck in landscape or something like that. And I don't recall of anyone having problems with the GPS.

Oh, maybe I should have mentioned this earlier :p, a lot of people say that a full clean install is recommended, although what I am just going to do is a factory reset in recovery first and then apply the CM and do another factory reset since where upgrading from 2.1, no need to do that when just installing new CM updates, only cache and dalvik wipe is required iirc. as well as the removal of any google apps updates.

Also when taking photos and videos, is the shutter speed/snap quicker than what it is on 2.1 at the minute, as I seen one youtube video of someone taking a photo and it seems to be nearly as quick as the desire and nexus, but it is hard to tell, so just to confirm would be nice, TIA :)

Wow, very nice score

It seems a bit snappier and multitouch seems to be a bit more responsive in it too.

Very nice :D

Even more tempted to do this now.

Thanks for that :)

EDIT:

Also, we really should take this discussion over here :p:

Just installing alpha 8 now lol

I don't use the default browser, I use xScope 6 - the speed is great IMO - browsing this forum is not far off the speed of browsing it on my pc :)

Obviously things like project logs full of pictures take a little while but even that isn't unbearable

- I'll let you know what alpha8 is like when I get it running ok

Alpha 8 is good :) smooth, quick, not laggy - plenty of customisable features (I especially like the direct links to the phone and messaging from the lock screen!!)

The camera preview is indeed colour again -which is nice- just need UOTKitchen to let me re-cook my circle battery meter :( lol doesn't seem to like the framework-res.apk in the a8 package, just sits there saying "cooking your files" ...surely they'll be burned by now lol

UOT kitchen seems to be borked at the moment did plan on trying CM 6.1 last night but without my battery mod I won't flash :p

Kitchen chefs are working on it :)

Also, love going BOING BOING using Launcher Pro's new homescreen loop scroll feature :p

Yeah I was using xscope 6 as well, but found that it slowed the rest of my mobile down a bit and that it would crash when I had more than 4 tabs opened or either force close my other apps, mainly handcent SMS

But apart from that, it is by far the fastest and best 3rd party browser I have used out of opera mobile and mini, dolphin, skyfire, miren, UC browser etc.

Excellent :D

Will wait till the end of this week to see if there will be an update for the youtube HQ/divx and a few more bugs fixed and if not, then I'll just flash it anyway :p

Also what is the speed like for taking photos (the snap/shutter speed) compared to what you had previously on 2.1 as I seen one video and it seemed to be as quick as the desire etc.

And as khaaan said, it hasn't been working since last night for anyone, so hopefully be back shortly :)

Yup, also love doing that :p

rom gripper is good if you like old console games, doesnt work on the sgs tho apparently

Yup, it is very nice :D, had it for a while now though, originally just downloaded the ROMs on my PC and then just transfered them over to my SD.

Got so many SNES, NES ROMs now.

The good old classics like terminator, lethal weapon, super mario kart, super mario world, TMNT, street fighter, all the alien games etc. etc. and of course mortal kombat :p

Also dolphin have released a mini version of the browser now, suppose to be smoother and quicker, will give it a try, although it is not yet on the market and I doubt it will be any quicker than xscope and opera mini.

Well after trying out dolphin mini browser, all I can say is OMG it is fast.

Seriously very good browser, lightweight and nice UI with nice features and once again the speed

Also you got an option to move the cache to the SD card, which is very useful for saving internal memory.

Compared to both opera versions especially the mini version, it is quite a bit better, renders pages correctly as well :D

Although xscope would still be faster/snappier, I think.

Guys what do i need to emulate old games? i have rooted but back on the default rom at present.

Yup as mentioned SNES and NES are very good as well as the SEGA one.

This is all that you need:

http://www.appbrain.com/app/nesoid-(nes-emulator)/com.androidemu.nes

http://www.appbrain.com/app/snesoid-(snes-emulator)/com.androidemu.snes

http://www.appbrain.com/app/gensoid-(sega-genesis-emu)/com.androidemu.gens

And this here, to get all the ROMs of the games:

http://www.appbrain.com/app/rom-gripper/com.bingo.rom_gripper

You could download them on your PC and then transfer over, but it is much easier just using that TBH. And plus much better as well in terms of choice IMO :D
