Essential Android Apps

anyone know of any good game where 4 people (each with there own phone) can play against each other? I tried looking for a poker game but i cant find one where i could set up a private game. I'm supprised there aren't many if any games that can be played locally

I just tried to install Sony Reader through the new market, but I got the message "This item is not available on your carrier"! What gives? Why would my network block a particular app? And why would they even be allowed to do so anyway, especially since I bought my phone SIM-free!

I keep getting this error message from the official google app website:

"There are no android phones associated with this account. Please sign in with a different account."

I created another gmail account specially to use on android. I have cleared the cache from my phone and re-signed into the new account from my phone. Yet when I visit the website in question I still get this error message.

Edit - ah, right. Just realised that my phone is running 1.6, and my tablet 2.1. Is installing this os easy or shall I just be more selective of which apps I put on my phone?

Yeap I've done it. I added a flashlight app just to test it works on the handset.

I still can't download any apps using my pc though. I keep getting that error message above. I'd prefer to download them all onto my pc so I can keep a folder full of them as a back up. Or is there a backup utility that's worth keeping to do this task for me?

Edit, I still am unable to login using my tablet, even though I can use the browser to access my newly created email account.

You should be able to use the same account on any number of devices. I access my email via IMAP on the phone, home pc and netbook. It sounds like a gmail settings issue with your tablet.

Can you elaborate at all? I've had a look in settings but can't see anything that should be changed/altered for it to work.

Every time I've had connection errors on a device not being able to access my gmail, it has been an incorrect setting i've used. I know that on android phones there is the quick 'wizard' method of adding accounts or you can input all your settings manually. Also, of course, IMAP needs to be enabled in your gmail settings. Assuming you've checked all of your server/port settings on your tablet and they are OK, I'm not sure where the problem lies.

I just had a quick google of your error message and some people are advising a factory reset. You may want to look into that if the error persists. Good luck!! :)

No point in downloading to the PC. Use appbrain to keep a track of all your apps and sync. Although I understand that the new new new market website will be able to do this anyway

Skifta beta

Adds DLNA to Android devices...

Control and play your media whenever and however you want with Skifta.
Skifta combines media shifting with DLNA/UPnP and lets you play your digital music, photos and videos on connected devices anywhere – no wires, no downloading. Control digital media on your phone; from the Internet, and remotely from home, and stream it over WiFi to your TV, PS3 or stereo

Can you use appbrain with more than one device?

Edit - a master reset and it's working first time. Think something borked up from the factory.

It backs up core stuff and settings to Google then if you reset your phone or flash a new ROM at first boot when signed in it will see you have stuff backed up and attempt to restore that data after a prompt.

Looked into it, but if you get unified remote you could surely do this along with most other things on your PC remotely.

IIRC unified remote only works as a wifi remote control. With these remote apps you can control your downloads from anywhere in the world as the client controls are replicated on your handset. I use Transdroid to access transmission.

NEW angry birds!

Angry Birds fans, you might want to check the "My Apps" section of the Market now – your favorite game just received an update, and it’s a big one.
In addition to goodies like a graphics toggle for lower-end devices and support for the code that will be displayed in Rovio’s Super Bowl ad (the code will unlock another level), update 1.5.1 adds a fifth episode – "Ham ‘Em High." It includes 30 new Wild West-themed levels, as well as 15 levels currently marked as "Coming Soon." Have a look:
