Essential Android Apps

I've had 2 IPlayer apps since I had the phone about 3 months ago

You've had 2 apps that can play iPlayer streams, this is the iPlayer app itself.

It's like me saying "Microsoft Word has been released" and you replying "I've had 2 Microsoft Word apps since I had the phone 3 months ago" because you've installed OpenOffice or something. :p

Lol, yeah forgot to mention that as well, everyone keeps posting about the textures missing or something, I don't really play any games on my spica apart from the SNES, NESOID and sega genesis emulator roms.

Yeah same, he said he would fix it in the next version, but I think he said that it would be fixed in V4, which it clearly isn't :p, unfortunately he doesn't seem to bothered about it though as well as other little things like angry birds, battery issues etc. seems to care more about the performance/speed and the display at the minute.

It's not the textures not loading, it just simply 'crashes to desktop' ...I'm using the 1.3.5 patched version though, so maybe the graphics patch in that is conflicting with the 3d drivers in the kernel software... will try the standard 1.3.5 and see how it goes :)
(can't play higher versions than 1.3.5 as it's too laggy on this phone :( lol, hardly massively graphical, but it can't handle the background images lol - shame you can't turn them off really :( )

Hmm, not too sure as I don't really play angry birds, but iirc people are able to run it fine, it's just problems with textures more so in the menus, not so much the actual game. So yeah, probably something conflicting with the drivers.

Plus tbh, it's not really anything to do with our mobiles, I think it is more on rovios end and just poor coding of the game for lower-medium android handsets, and maybe slightly due to our drivers and other things and the game really isn't that demanding compared to other stuff.

But once tomq3 finishes his 2D/3D drivers, which he has rewritten from scratch (been working on them for months now, although he had exams so has taken longer than what it should have), our mobile should have no problem with any games and everything will be much quicker/smoother :D

Typical! lol the new version doesn't show up on my market, and the online market says it's incompatible with my phone :( boo hoo

It works for me, I just went to the android market website, and hit install and it started dll on my mobile straight away.

Also another thing, is your market on the website working ok, in the sense that it doesn't show apps still installed even though they are uninstalled as mine stills shows apps that I uninstalled ages ago :(, no idea why that is happening.

Thanks.

iPlayer app works really well on my Galaxy Tab - much better resolution video than on the website and the navigation bar works well.

I guess the Desire is getting a bit long in the tooth now, new phone required soon when a similarly sized dual core handset is out.

I watched Human planet ep1 on the Desire last night in bed at max quality (800 setting) and it was smooth and excellent quality, like watching a movie off the SD card.

Was very impressed.

Will watch ep 2 tonight :p

The problem I find with the Desire Khaaan is when you pause or try and navigate elsewhere in a video. It seems to lock up. The app has a two and a half star rating at the moment with loads of other people with issues. Thankfully I only really watch TV on the tab though. ;)

Edit: looking on the reviews, even standard Tabs are not perfoming - I'm using a modaco rom with an ext4 kernel/filesystem so maybe that's why it's working so well compared to the desire. Pretty bad for the BBC to release such a poor quality app. It might be that they've finally found an actual useful reason to run fashion ROMs like Oxygen on the Desire though if it's performing as well as my Modaco Tab. ;)

I'm running Oxygen 2 on my Desire and really saw no problems at all, there is a little skip segment as you scroll through videos but that's always happened anyway as a few seconds later once it has buffered it's smooth.

Here's a quick video I recorded, nothing fancy, just showing it does playback smoothly and in sync:

That works a lot better than this ReflexTSenseHD rom I'm using currently - forget fast forwarding/rewinding at all basically. Judging by the market reviews it's quite a picky app when it comes to hardware/software.

iPlayer Application works fine on my Desire, running a stock HTC ROM with root access but no overclocks.

All SenseHD ROMs are bloatware, hence why they recommend swap partitions ;)

No, market website is telling me Angry Birds is still installed so I can't choose to install it :(

I tried installing the .apk that Khaaan hosted for me but that didn't install :(

Could you host your .apk? maybe it installs different for different phones? (unlikely, but worth a shot lol)

Also, installed Lukiqq V4 BFS version yesterday that was meant to have loads of bug fixes... Thought I'd bricked it :( it keept bootlooping and wouldn't let me into recovery mode...

Turned out it just wasn't recognising the SD card, so I took that out and got into recovery, then put the card back in and reverted back to stock CMa8.3... The LukiqqV4 package has bugs with the camera too, crashes back to homescreen after pressing the shutter, so doesn't actually take the pic :(

You have any issues with your camera?
