Essential Android Apps

No, market website is telling me Angry Birds is still installed so I can't choose to install it :(

I tried installing the .apk that Khaaan hosted for me but that didn't install :(

Could you host your .apk? maybe it installs different for different phones? (unlikely, but worth a shot lol)

Also, installed Lukiqq V4 BFS version yesterday that was meant to have loads of bug fixes... Thought I'd bricked it :( it keept bootlooping and wouldn't let me into recovery mode...

Turned out it just wasn't recognising the SD card, so I took that out and got into recovery, then put the card back in and reverted back to stock CMa8.3... The LukiqqV4 package has bugs with the camera too, crashes back to homescreen after pressing the shutter, so doesn't actually take the pic :(

You have any issues with your camera?

If you have it on your mobile uninstall it and even if you don't click on the "installed" button anyway as it will still pop up asking you what device you want to install it on, and do this before you click on "installed":

1. Go to the android market website, log in, go to "my market account"
2. Settings tab and click on "edit" add a nickname (I used "Nexus") and choose the option "Shown in menus" for visibility and hit "update"
3. Try to install angry birds using the android market website now

;)

If that doesn't work then I'll upload the apk for you.

Never install BFS , lol, it might be very fast, but it is extremely unstable, poorer battery life and other annoying bugs, keep to CFS, it is the much better one for everyday usage, plus lukiqq has stated that he can achieve the speed of BFS whilst actually still using CFS :D

Also, it's a bit of a pain going from CFS to BFS as you will encounter issues like what you had, you need to do a wipe of the dalvik cache first, convert from RFS to ext2 file types if you haven't already and then do another wipe and so on.

I am still on V4 3 all in 1 package of the CFS type and my camera is working fine except the white/grey preview after taking a picture, but I didn't see anyone having issues with the camera on BFS at all, but V5 of CFS is being released today with more improvements and fixes:

v5 changelog:

- fixed recovery (thanks tom3q)

- back to 60Hz refresh rate because of touch problems and vertical lines (do not affect performance)

- camera menu is definitelly fixed (taking photo white/gray screen still remains)

- newly compiled camera module from Acclaim (no more dark camera bug, camera preview is now much more smooth and won't blur in a movement, colors are more vivid and gradients between colors are les visible)

Also, I recommend everyone to try out miren browser, it really is a great browser, prefer it more than any of the others tbh, however dolphin mini is just as good overall IMO.

Back to the v4 package now - working great :) ..where's v5? can't find it :( lol not uploaded it yet has he?

As for Angry Birds - it's still saying it's installed - when I click on 'install' it says it's not compatible with this device :(

download appsaver and save the .apk from your install - just in case it is somehow different to the other .apk :) *fingers crossed*

Yup, it is indeed amazing :D

It's not out yet, although he did say that it would be out last night and now today :(, so hopefully he will be uploading it tonight, it's just a changelog that he uploaded, so he must be fixing some bugs maybe or changing something.

Hmm, that's weird. Did you try what I said exactly, as I noticed, when I had no nickname and the name wasn't shown in menus it said that the device wasn't compatible or something like that when I clicked installed as well.

Ok, will upload in a minute :)

EDIT:

Here it is:

Let me know if it works :)

iPlayer app works really well on my Galaxy Tab - much better resolution video than on the website and the navigation bar works well.

I'm loving it on the Tab and it looks very good. It’s not too bad on the Nexus S either but once you’ve used it on the Tab you don’t want to use it on anything smaller.

Nexus - that AngryBirds works fine :) it's much smoother than 1.4.2, just doesn't show the button textures in the menus or the score or anything like that, I can see where my birds are going though :)

On a side note: seen this yet?

>edit<
Going by the discussion thread, that CM7a1 is far too unstable to use 24/7... will probably have to wait for that to reach a8 as well lol

also, would this driver help with my angrybirds graphics problem? I know it did before, but would the 'undo' package bork the intercept 3d drivers that came with lukiqq's kernel? My thoughts are that it would... but I could always just reinstall the kernel with the intercept drivers, yes?

Just want another oppinion before I potentially fubar my phone lol

Nice, glad to hear it works :)

I tried it out quickly as well and my goodness it is soooo smooth now, but as mentioned by you and every one else on that thread some of the textures are missing.

That's the problem with using lukiqq kernels I think, something due to not allowing more than 23MB of RAM to be used for it or something like that.

Yup, seen that as soon as it was posted :p

Lol, yeah it's hard to say, as it isn't as complicated as what 2.2 was, since they did that from scratch without any of Samsungs sources/drivers etc. and plus 2.3 isn't a huge update, so hopefully it shouldn't take any where as long as what it did for 2.2, most of the stuff that they developed/ported in order to get a fully functional 2.2 ROM will also be used in 2.3 I reckon.

However I think it will be a while until we do get a fully functional 2.3 ROM as they encountered a sleep bug problem, where when the screen sleeps on its own, you can't wake it up again, so they are putting all their efforts into that bug first before they move onto anything else. This bug has really slowed development down :(, a wee bit like 2.2 with the audio, took months to get it working. I think it is due to the kernel that there using, they need to move on to the 2.3 one.

I don't think that it is needed any more tbh, as that was long before we got the samsung intercept 3D drivers, which are much better so yeah probably just get rid of it and if you applied that on top of the intercept 3D then yes you would have replaced intercept with deniska 3D driver and you can do vice versa by just applying intercepts one, I think, will need to do a wipe of dalvik cache and cache as well maybe.

After I apply lukiqqs new kernels (the all 3 in 1 package), I wipe the dalvik cache and cache just to be on the safe side.

Tried those other drivers and the phone bootlooped lol luckilly it didn't lock out recovery so I went back to the intercept ones

Guess I'll have to guess what my score is for now LOL

Any of you guys managed to get the swype keyboard? I have the beta installed and I'm pretty sure its the way forward in terms of typing with one hand in particular? It's rather intuitive and it's just time before they iron out the bugs.

Ultra Keyboard is the one I use, it has 'swype' or tracing as they call it, but it's not enabled by default, you have to turn it on...

You can customize the key colours, the trail colour for the tracing etc... It's awesome :) and very stable - not had a single FC on that particular app - just most others lol

when I said it was intuitive,i meant it felt like a qwerty version of predictive text but without the pressing business which I find it quite difficult to do on a touch screen. I can see this catching up especially for the tablets. Anyone else tried it?

never really bothered with the paid apps but theres a one i was going to buy and i thought you could pay for it using your phone credit but no you have to use a credit card  bit rubbish if you cant be bothered setting one up. yeh seen angry birds was coming on the pc, if i got that id never move out of the chair so i dont think i should get it

QuickPic really is good! I'm removing Gallery3D tonight :)

Great thing about it is that it's also a basic file manager for media files as well s no need to keep loading up ES File Explorer to move files around.

Nexus, Lukiqq V5 is out :)

Also, did you guys know you can get Angry Birds on your PC? :D

Download Intel AppUP (www.appup.com) and it's available in there for £3.49

Yup, seen that. Thanks :)

Going to hold off on upgrading to it as quite a lot of people are reporting problems, the main ones for me being:

- Youtube doesn't work
- Quite laggy and not as fast as V4
- Less RAM
- Blinking cursor in notification bar when typing

Although apparently angry birds works much better now, nearly all the textures are showing.
