Essential Android Apps

How are they not illegal, without getting into the debate.

They're copyrighted. though I don't think anyone cares if they downloaded anymore.

i dont think Roms are actually classed as illegal. If you look at the fine print it says something like "downloading this rom is only prohibited if you own the game". So technically i dont think it is, but w/e

im amazed the sony didnt create some awesome rom system for the new xepria play (formerly PlayStation phone), where you could buy and play all ps1 games. seems like a simple and good idea. lots of cash to be made.

and ps1 / n64 games are far better than native android / iphone games as more money went into developing them as there was a bigger market.

Ok, I just tried it. Any way to un-upside-down my screenshot? :D

Just do it on your pc?

Anyone know if I install Cyanogen 7 RC2 over my RC1 will I lose ANYTHING from my phone? I'll obviously do a nandroid back up before hand anyway, but if all goes smoothly will it just boot back up and everything will be intact? (accepting that I may have to reload all my widgets).

Anyone else downloaded Cordy? I downloaded it last night after reading a Xoom review, thought it was a decent enough game. Will definitely take a look at the future releases for it.
Looks great and is a nice way to waste some time.

Could use your help OCUK

Want to install a free .apk (i.e not a cracked app)

Now this normally goes fine, however this particular app follows the usual install sequence, but then returns a message saying "Application Not Installed"

Now from googling it seems that this can happen to any app, but I can't find a fix

Any ideas?

What are you using to install? I'd recommend ES File Explorer above all else.

St0rmer66 You don't lose anything upgrading, just wipe dalvik cache and normal cache in recovery first and all should be fine.

maybe an actual ocuk app would be overkill, but there should at least be a mobile friendly site to browse when your on the move. something similar to the mobile Amazon site, if you know what I mean?

As long as you have a Nandroid backup, everything is AOK :D

It all went fine, no backup needed but always good to have it in case! :D .

Out of interest, if I was to get a new SD card (only got 4GB and it fills so fast even without music!) would it simply be a case of mounting the SD card then copying the entire contents over onto the new one? Or are there some files which can't be seen in Windows?

Yep, simply copy the whole thing over :) the ext2 partitions are just the folders with a "." preceeding the name...

I recently swapped from a 1GB class4 to a 2GB class6 (much faster access time, really noticable!) - then swapped my system/data/cache/dalvik-cache all onto the ext2 partition - still leaving me with over 1gb just for apps :)

Plus the beauty of doing this is that even when you install apps to the "internal" memory, the 'system' partition is still on the memory card - so your phone itself will never become full :)

My GT-i5700 has over 70 apps installed and I've still got 135 out of 140mb free on the phone itself so it's still really fast and responsive :)

Good stuff, have ordered a 16GB Class 10! :) . For now I have installed simple2ext and just moved the Dalvik cache to ext3. Instantly frees up 50mb of internal space. Got 113MB (internal) remaining even with all my apps installed so that will do me fine for now until I get the faster SD card and put everything onto ext3.

Is it really that easy to backup the ext part? I read forum posts about people having to use linux to even be able to see them?

when I changed my card, I just swapped it over in windows, plugged phone in via USB in recovery mode, copied the memory card into a desktop folder called "SD" then rebooted the phone with the new blank card in, copied the contents of "SD" back onto the phone via usb - rebooted and everything was just where I left it :) ...except I had a lot more free space lol

Piece of cake mate :) - Class10 card will fly! :)

My desire HD will be arriving tommorow, and to save me reading through 184 pages of this thread is there anyone who has compiled a list of all the best apps to get?

Angry Birds, Wordfeud and Gun Bros for games.

Depends on what other stuff you're looking for really.

Endomondo or mytracks for sports tracking. Androidify for a laugh.

LauncherPro, GoLauncher or ADW launcher for a bit of customisation

Edit: Get your name in the Wordfeud thread too!

A tapatalk compatible version would be excellent, the XDA dev. app uses it and it's far easier to browse their forums than using the inbuilt browser.
