Essential Android Apps

does anyone know a good app and guide to allow me to access a windows shared folder? I've tried a couple of file manager apps and one of them (astro I think it was) said it couldn't connect to the IP of the computer with the shared folder, and the other app I used also couldn't connect, but when I did a scan it detected one of the PCs on the network (and showed the drives inside it, but none of them were shared so couldn't be accessed), but it didn't show the pc I wanted it to with the scan.

So does anyone have any advice?

EStrongs File Explorer does this... I used it for managing files on my phone, FTP connections and accessing network shares :)

I use ES File Explorer so when I'm connected to my wifi network I can access the hard drives of any computer on the network as long as I have the IP and Windows login details.

You set up a samba server in the LAN section of ES File Explorer, enter the IP, Username and Password and you're good to go.

EDIT: Beaten!

Well, I managed to get access to a network share using ES file explorer and I got my old contacts deleted so thats some things done.

Now can anyone recommend what I should use for a media player/internet radio and also what is the best way to get my music collection/album artwork onto the phone?

I'm sooo giving that a go with ES File Explorer :) love Samba, but wish it could work the other way round - that sounds like just what I'm after :)

Dist: is your sig image clipped from Wargames?

Help? How do I set up ES?

What calendar do people use?

Is there a decent free app that gives a full month view? Google sync would be nice too.

I'm not using a sense based rom so don't say the stock one :p

I use the Smooth Calender widget - its a nice 1x4 (4 being across) widget to show next 3 upcoming calender entries.

ES File Explorer network sharing annoys me, as it requires that Windows has a login password in order to be able to access the network share. Without it I could only access files saved in the public documents folder.

Overlook Fing is very good for network admins or the curious, shows all network devices, their services, open ports, mac addresses, IP etc. basically a lot of network orientated tools for device discovery.

And not forgetting the AppBrain Fast Web Installer. I prefer searching for apps on AppBrain still and installing directly from there.

Could just make a new share from the root of the drive and access from there like I do.
