Essential Android Apps

Thanks, shootme is fussing about not having root access despite it being rooted.

Methinks adguard might be playing silly buggers anyway i'll get it working somehow.

Angry Birds, Wordfeud and Gun Bros for games.

Depends on what other stuff you're looking for really.

Endomondo or mytracks for sports tracking. Androidify for a laugh.

LauncherPro, GoLauncher or ADW launcher for a bit of customisation

Edit: Get your name in the Wordfeud thread too!

Thanks for the suggestions.

Some of the other tasks off the top of my head that I'm going to need filled is a way to SSH into my ubuntu box, currently on my PC I use putty and pageant but they might not be needed if it can all be done through the terminal (not quite sure how to set up the key authetication stuff without pageant though).

Other apps I'm interested in is Lastpass (although it seems I have to use their browser as part of the app, I can't use lastpass with my choice of browser it seems), some sort of IRC client designed around mobile deviles if using irssi through my ubuntu box doesn't look usable, the twit.tv app, some sort of app to allow the playing of .mkv files (wikipedia doesn't list that as a supported file type on the desire hd).

Also if possible I would like some in depth Wi-Fi app as I'm doing a project on Wi-Fi so it would be good if I can get an app that shows as much detail as possible about Wi-Fi, such as signal strength, list of what devices are transmitting on what channels, transmit power, if it is using 20MHz channels or 40MHz channels etc... as I would assume the default android Wi-Fi settings wont go into that much detail.

Tthe last couple things I can think of is can I get something like chrometophone but to work on my firefox browser on my PC and whatever browser I use on my phone, and also what way would be best for me to edit documents shared between my phone and PC, should I look into google docs or something? or should I just share the folder on my PC and mount it on my phone? And finally, is there any easy way to see network devices/shares? I have a few shared folders around my network and I know my brothers nokia n900 has difficulty mounting/doing anything with shared folders.

I'm already a premium user, $12/year to support such a great company/software is well worth it, and XMarks is part of them too now.

I'm after a solution to get rip of the extremly annoying lock code / screen that i've now got after setting up my uni exchange email. I know it's part of the security policy but it's so annoying having to put in a code to unlock phone.

Im on nexus S stock 2.3.3 There seems to be an app for disabling it for certain versions of HTC sense but I'm stuck trying to find a solution here.

Indeed, i find it of great use, and will be a premium user soon as work settles down.

Though i won't find xmarks of much use, i already keep backups of my bookmarks.

The main reason I use xmarks is not the backing up (which any browser can do) but the syncing over multiple devices. So I can have set of PC only bookmarks, a set of laptop only bookmarks, and a set of bookmarks that sync between PC and my laptop and keep up to date.

Bah, would have preferred the coming soon levels on Angry birds instead! I want all 3 stars!

The 'seasons' update doesn't work properly for me :( white textures throughout the menus - had to pretty much guess where to press the screen for level 1 :(:(:( ...Game runs fine, but menus are screwy lol

No fair lol

This is part of the OS security model afaik, you can't remove it. Disabling HTC sense wouldn't disable the lockscreen either. Could you possibly use pop3/imap?

Thanks for that. I feared it may not have been possible.
It would not be so bad if it locked you out of the application and required a code; but to lock the entire phone down is a bit too much. It conflicts with 'goto lockscreen' aswell so not only you you have to put a code in, but you have to unlock it twice!

I don't think IMAP will work, but I'll ask some of the IT guys about it.

cheers,
Rick

New Swype beta started today I think, just signed up having not used it before and first impression is I love it! :D
