Essential Android Apps

This has started annoying me recently, why do apps and shortcuts on home have to have text there. Can you not have them without text? Looks rubbish!

Can anyone tell me if I will get charged for currency conversion when using the Android Market? I have a £1 fee on my debit card when I pay in any currency other than Sterling, and didn't know whether Google handled this conversion before I pay.

It's classed as a foreign payment and some banks will charge for this. Just like using your card abroad.

Hopefully paypal won't be to long!!

Having tried it out Dolphin HD is certainly nice but scrolling around, pinch zoom and page reflow isn't as fast or accurate as the built in browser, page load times seemed to be just as fast though and the featureset high (swipe to load tabs etc).

Also a common issue which exists on the stock browser is being unable to manage bookmarks into folders/by x order.

I've gone back to the default browser.

Are there any alternative apps to 'Poynt' on the blackberry?
What is poynt? It's coming to Android, I think.

Someone remind me, what's that app which scans all your apps and checks for updates? Can't for the life of me remember.

Highly annoying that you did not describe what it does, as then you have to go and do a search to see what it does.

But after looking can you not just use google maps?

For what I could see off the video presentation, you can do 90+% of that within google maps.

Just by keeping your finger held down on the map, then either clicking what's nearby or search nearby. And it will even give you turn by turn navigation to the place as well.

Use Poynt to find people, businesses, movie theatres, retailers and restaurants near you. Poynt uses GPS or cell-site locations to pinpoint you and quickly deliver the information you need whenever and wherever you need it.
Sounds like Places Directory tbh

Yeh sorry, you just put your postcode in and it will list all local take-away's, restaurants and show their contact details. :)

Pretty much like 'Yell'? Will see if they have an app in a moment.

As i said, try google maps just click search nearby.

Then type in what you are looking, for and it will show them on the map. And give you all the details you require.
