Essential Android Apps

I use Go SMS Pro instead of the standard sms app (samsung galaxy s2 built in), and it used to kill itself when I pressed the back button to exit (it no longer appeared in running apps). However following an update it no longer shuts down, and so just runs continuously unless I manually kill it.

Should I worry about killing it each time I exit it? I have read conflicting opinions on whether killing tasks manually is a good idea or not. (I also manually kill the internet app (built in), each time I finish using it)

Don't kill tasks

Would you care to explain why please?

Because Android manages memory optimally anyway, it keeps applications resident in memory because faster to load, if you kill it each time, it's actually using more resources to reload it into memory than if you had left it alone.

Thanks pike, always good to know. I've been killing tasks recently, shan't bother now. Cheers.
How do you take screenshots of the "desktop"?

Thanks for the tip. I gave it a try, but it says "We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site" whenever I try to log in. I unticked the remove client-side scripting and ticked allow cookies to be stored.. any other ideas?

Just to make sure you're using the same settings as me on http://www.uswebproxy.com/, everything should be ticked other than java script, ROT13 encoding, and strip page title.

When you go to the Amazon site click "Your Account" on the top right, then put your details in on the right hand side. Don't know if there's a diffent way to log in that doesn't work but that's what I do and it works fine :).

Edit: I just tested the site, everyone who's getting the error is logging in wrong :p. Do what I said above and you will be able to log into the site :).

When you're buying the app go to the drop down in the top right, then to Android>Apps. On the page you should see the free app and a buy button, I think the button doesn't work there, click on the app name and on the next page select buy with one click :).

Hopefully a quick one guys...

Is there any app or widget or whatever that I can have a quick shortcut to switch on/off the mobile access point/hotspot? Right now I'm having to go into "Settings > Wireless and network > Tethering and portable hotspot > Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings > Portable Wi-Fi hotspot" just to switch it on, which is slightly annoying.

Thanks guys.

Anyone know of an app/widget where you can force the screen to stay on. Ideally by the pressing of a widget. Was following a recipe last night but the screen kept going off every 2 mins and don't want to touch the screen to wake it with greasy fingers.

I found something that was application based which half does the job, but not exactly what I wanted.
