Essential Android Apps

Because Android manages memory optimally anyway, it keeps applications resident in memory because faster to load, if you kill it each time, it's actually using more resources to reload it into memory than if you had left it alone.

Whilst that may be technically true, I still swear by my task killer, because it doubles my battery life (literally)..

I have a desire HD, and either on the stock ROM or CM7, it lasts 2 days of light use with no task killer, but using the task killer, set to kill on screen off, on power up etc, I get 4 days of light use..

I don't notice any untoward side effects, I get less glitches etc, the only downside is the obvious that some apps when unloaded don't resume from where you last where before they where suspended.

Each to their own of course, but I've tried lots of tests, and for Froyo/Gingerbread, I'd say give it a whirl.. I use the InfoLife LLC Advanced Task Manager Pro, it seems to be the only one to reliably kill tasks in gingerbread for me..

Just to make sure you're using the same settings as me on http://www.uswebproxy.com/, everything should be ticked other than java script, ROT13 encoding, and strip page title.

When you go to the Amazon site click "Your Account" on the top right, then put your details in on the right hand side. Don't know if there's a diffent way to log in that doesn't work but that's what I do and it works fine :).

Edit: I just tested the site, everyone who's getting the error is logging in wrong :p. Do what I said above and you will be able to log into the site :).

When you're buying the app go to the drop down in the top right, then to Android>Apps. On the page you should see the free app and a buy button, I think the button doesn't work there, click on the app name and on the next page select buy with one click :).

Worked :D Nice one! Thanks!

Hopefully a quick one guys...

Is there any app or widget or whatever that I can have a quick shortcut to switch on/off the mobile access point/hotspot? Right now I'm having to go into "Settings > Wireless and network > Tethering and portable hotspot > Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings > Portable Wi-Fi hotspot" just to switch it on, which is slightly annoying.

Thanks guys.

Search HOTSPOT on market. There are tons of widgets.

Does anyone know what the best way to get access to non-compatible listed apps on the market is? I need a method that works on CM9 (ICS).

I've looked at editing the build.prop but I'm not sure which fields the market will check to deliver apps. I'm trying to load GTAIII back on (I've already purchased) but it's reporting not compatible with my S2 when I'm using CM9 even though I know it will work. I should have used Titanium Backup but I've never needed to before so didn't expect an issue.

Are there any apps that will allow me to define, strictly, what wireless networks I want my phone to connect to. If I go out and forget to turn the wireless function off, I find when I get back that my phone has connected to an available and unsecured network, i.e. one without a password. I then have to manually disconnect my phone from that network and let it reconnect to my home wifi network.

I'm looking for something like Windows network manager for wireless networks where I can specify the priority of networks to connect to or perhaps an app that will allow me to whitelist and blacklist networks to connect to so that I could say blacklist any wireless network that isn't on my whitelist, which would be home and work wifi networks.

Cheers. :)

Thanks Kreeeee. Is Llama similar to Locale or do they do different things? I just remembered Locale from my early days with Android on my HTC Magic. I never actually got round to buying Locale.

Any app that would allow me to start up my computer remotely from a shut down stage? (I'm aware that I would need to active Wake on Lan in BIOS). Don't really need to app to do anything more than start up.

Phone - Galaxy Nexus.
OS - Windows 7 x64.
