It's perfectly usable but you can't use HTC SenseUI widgets (ONLY SenseUI can use them). Just find new widgets that do the same job. People can use it the same way Nexus one users use teh N1 launcher becaus ethat comes with the same widgets (same as every Android phone not sporting Sense/Rachel etc.

What HTC Sense widgets do you use that you /need/ ?

Docklet icon customisation is coming in the next version says the developer, he's working on it starting today. You will then be able to add handcent inplace of the default Message app.

That sound good mate, I'm just missing an app to turn mobile internet on/off now. Maybe a decent calendar. I don't use much else from sense UI :)

I'm really glad I got a HTC phone cause I lI've the sense UI widgets and general. Style of the phone, my IME keyboard mod has black keys and white letters with yellow long press letters this is why I wouldn't want to root it sense is black background white writing.. can't believe how good this phones UI is, best I've used.. only a few things i dilike.

A link from friends stream to go to the persons actual fb profile, little more info on the weather widget, smaller widgets so I could have gmail and Facebook on the same page etc

Aye Sense is nice but little bugs here and there just put me off like Friend Stream breaking occasionally r the stream data not being as in sync as other widegts (Facebook sync is minimum 60mins for example whereas Twitter can be lower).

I'd also prefer less black and more transparency for the widgets or being able to control it at least.

Sense has no Window transition animations or tray visual effects like stock Android does, something that LauncherPro/Nexus One etc make use of.

Because of these bugs I prefer the visual look of a stock Android 2.1 launcher and the upcoming 2.2 launcher and have widgets to suit the other homescreen tasks!

SwitchPro will allow internets on/off as well as other options, seriously it's good :D

Check my sig android pic link to see how it looks.

I use Smooth Calendar widget for viewing upcoming agenda items, a single click takes me to Google Calendar nicely.

I would like to thank Khaaan! for highlighting Launcher Pro and Weather widgets (yr.no) :)

Launcher Pro is such a delight to use ^______________^

Hmm haven't seen the windows transition effects working before.. maybe I shouldn't look so I don't know what I'm missing :O

I used to use 3G Watchdog, I found it the best. Haven't used it in a while though...

^I use call meter ng much prefer it to watchdog
Ok, thanks for the suggestions, will try them both out to see which one I prefer.
I'm not sure you can install the HTC_IME keyboard, it depends if the CPU on your phone is compatible, due to some native language library used.
Thanks for the reply, I found a guide, which shows how to do it without rooting the mobile, so I might try it out, although there are mixed comments about it. Are there any other free keyboard apps out there that are better than the default android one?

Edit: Here's the link to the guide for getting the HTC_IME keyboard:

does anyone know how to get a different wall paper for each screen rather than one large one stretched across all of them?

On launcher pro, how do u make the message icon at the bottom take u to handcent? Also lost some good widgets, struggling to see why people use it. I'll stick with it today see how I get on.

You should be able to choose your default message application i.e. the default one or the handcent SMS app and it also should give you the option of making the handcent SMS one your default. Goto settings>applications>manage applications>handcent SMS and select "clear defaults" and then goto your home screen and select the message icon and it should come up asking which messaging application you would like to use as your default. Hope this helps :).

Won't be possible with the stock launcher, even if you made your own image :( Try one of the launcher alternatives, although you'll loose the use Sense and it's widgets if you use Sense currently and switch launchers :)

Got to say launcherpro is by far the best launcher I have used so far, just so smooth and fast, plus it looks great, much better than the I5700 pantheon launcher, which is quite laggy sometimes and slow in general.

Is yours as smooth with a live wallpaper?

Launch Pro seems to lose its "smoothness" as soon as you load a live wallpaper

Haven't tried a live wallpaper, don't think the I5700 supports it (my mobile isn't rooted).

Yeah read quite a few comments about people complaining about that, once you put a live wallpaper on, it laggs etc.
