Essential Android Apps

Thanks :) Funnily enough I found a video soon after I posted and it explained how to do this using Droid VNC on the phone and TightVNC viewer on the PC. I've tested it and it works pretty well :)

You might like to have a look at AirDroid, which they say ... is a fast, free app that lets you wirelessly manage your Android from your favourite browser.

Personally I have found it useful on more than one occasion, and although my PC is 'hard wired' into my hub, my Nexus is wireless, and links with it nicely.

AirDroid is a great piece of software especially since they sorted out the problem with it not being able to access your sd card.

Whoops! Skim read your post :o :p

Yeah airdroid is what I use :)

Thanks :) I did look at the description for Airdroid earlier and it looks quite powerful but it seems it doesn't let you control and see your phone's display in real time. For file transfers and messaging, I use Myphoneexplorer which works very well.

-edit- The reason I want to do this is that I have my spare Android phone attached to the side of my bed to listen to podcasts, radio, stream music from my PC. It's connected to a charger and speakers and would rather not have to move it.

I'm looking for an alarm clock that will ignore the fact that there's something plugged into the headphone socket and beep through the phone at full volume as well as vibrate.

Alarm Clock Xtreme has this option but it says it doesn't work on all phones. It doesn't on the phone I would like it to work on (Motorola Defy+).

Can anyone suggest an app please?

Seems like it's more of a hardware/rom issue then?

Could well be. I've just tried Smart Alarm which has the same feature but it's not working with that app either. Maybe I should look at trying a different ROM which I'm a bit reluctant to as the current ROM is nice and stable.

Installed it this morning, it's a lot better than the stock one in ICS. Love the 'Pinch Zoom' function, but can't figure out how to change the view from Day to Week to Month etc...

Even though it's an 'upgrade' it only installs along side the stock (which crashes if you try and use it!) so I had to Hide the old icon in Apex and re-set the default the first time I clicked Simple Calendar...

Or just disable the stock calendar.

Month view by clicking the top left header showing the date.

A'haaa... Dood! Sweet!!

Any tunein radio users here? I thought I'd share my findings which you may or may not be aware of:

One of my major annoyances is that you can't sort the presets into alphabetical order or the order of your choosing. Well you can by creating an account, logging in on your pc and manually order the presets. Then log in on the phone to see the changes. You can also search stations and add presets on the PC.

Secondly, there's usually more than one stream for a radio channel. Swipe left to right on a preset and you'll get different stream quality options.

Been using the stock sense browser over the last few days and it is actually the quickest for loading/rendering pages compared to everything else apart from dolphin with the jetpack addon and dolphin beta, however, the UI has quite a bit of micro stutter (never encountered this before the last update, only ever in the tab selection window, which even then was only minor! Hopefully with JB it will be gone completely)

Just wish they would let you customize the quick thumb controls!
