Essential Android Apps

With the announcement of Google Music in Europe, I spotted this feature

Now I'm a bit skeptical about this will work. What's stopping someone creating a spoof mp3 file with the same title and a bit of meta data and gaining the real copy when uploading it?

I am sure it'll be a bit more hi-tech than that. Have you ever used the Shazam app? You hold your phone up against some speakers playing an unknown track and it will sample the audio and tell you the name of the track in seconds. Google will use a similar type of tech I would guess.

winamp can analyse your music too.

what i'm curious about is the piracy aspect. what about people with a mix of legit and pirated songs? will google just assume they're al legit or does it not matter as google is paying the record companies for this privilege?

ADW has had an update!?!?!

Feels really smooth to use now, I like it again lol

Only trouble is, I can't access all the settings :( the only ones I CAN access is the dock settings and the theme settings (and unfortunately they've ditched the part where you can choose individual parts of a theme to use - like using the icons, but not the dock background)

Hopefully this will get a rework soon, it's good to see he's still working on it though, thought he'd done a LPP on it

The new ADW launcher omfgshire

I love this, cannot describe just how fresh and original this feels, I'm running AOKP Milestone 1 on my i9300 and it's stunning ! This actually makes it feel / seem like I'm using a different slicker OS.

I'm ditching apex as of now, have been a droid user for four years and have used most of the mainstream launchers but ADW is deliciously delightful, download it and tinker with it but don't let the memories of the old ADW dissuade you, I can't rate this highly enough.

I'm having no problem using custom icon sets etc under themes and can access all the settings ( I have free version ) obviously extras blanked out to tempt you to go EX but I really don't see any need.

Few questions as I plan on buying the nexus 4 as my first android phone.

I understand jellybean comes with Chrome as the default browser. How good is it? I'm a firefox guy on PC, how does firefox adroid compare?

As the nexus 4 will be stock android, whats the stock music player like? or are there any great apps for playing my music (i'm moving from an iphone so would like something nice, clean ad easy to use)

Poweramp is generally regarded as the best music player. I use it myself and it's great. Very easy to use, however if you want to you can customise pretty much anything on it, although for the most part there's absolutely no need to.

Browser wise chrome is pretty damn good now, very reliable and very quick. Personally I prefer the stock browser purely because it has quick controls which I think are one of the best additions to a mobile browser ever. For you you'll probably want to try out the android version of firefox as it will import your bookmarks for you. Chrome and the stock browser will do the same, but obviously they import from Chrome for PC, and not firefox (likewise, firefox on android won't import from Chrome on PC).

I personally think chrome and firefox are awful browsers for android......

Much rather have quick ics browser or dolphin.

If I had to choose between firefox and chrome, I would choose chrome purely because it renders most of the text correctly (despite being far too big), faster, far better UI.

I think Chrome is awesome. I love the tab syncing between my desktop and S3, and I personally think the larger text is handy when browsing the forums :p I also like the magnification it brings up when clicking a link.

I tried to get on with quick controls.. but they weren't really that much quicker tbh :p

I tend to use a mixture of Opera, Chrome and Dolphin. They all tend to butcher sites formatting and flash content in various ways, so I find different browsers work better on different sites.

I'll have to give PowerAmp a go, sounds interesting. Are there any other Android apps that support Google Music apart from the official Google app?

^^ Awesome

Just tried it on mine but it FCs as soon as I try switch to the 3d mode. Guess I'll just wait for the official ROM for the Gnex to come out...

This will let you do it as they have added some libs - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12400988/android/4.2Camera.zip

It still won't display the 3D picture tho but it will let you use Photosphere to take them.... I think we need to wait for GN4 to come out
