Why is it awful?

It looks impressive from the vid :)

SPB Shell 3D does indeed 'look' impressive, it is pure eye candy. It has come along quite a way since I first tried it on Winmo and is great for showing off your phone down the pub :D Once you get over how cool it looks though I have found it a little lacking in places.

I wouldn't say it is 'awful' (though it would be interesting to hear why Zaf thinks so), it just lacks the polish and quality of built in widgets you get with Sense and the customisability of Launcher Pro etc. It does also still have a few bugs to iron out and seems to drain my battery much faster then Sense does - though this could well be to do with the fact that I am running Android from SD on a non-native device, HD2.

Unified Remote

Pretty cool app, lets you control things with WiFi and Bluetooth.

Using it on my SanFran, its very responsive and easy to use, simple UI but quite a few different remotes to use with you pc, as well as a Mouse and Keyboard for touchscreen devices.

File Management aswell, you can go into your C: Drive and access files like music and films etc to play on your monitor, or a netbook (which is what im doing atm)

Its FREE but the upgrade is cheap and i may consider getting it however the range of features on the free version is more than enough as a started package.

:) Enjoy

Yep, that's a very neat app and gets mentioned quite a lot :) - another similar app also worth mentioning is "VLC Remote".

I've been messing with VLC remote for ages, could you give me a few tips on setting it up?

I have the VLC http access definitely working as I can control it through my web browser, but nothing on the phone - web browser, or app :(

Have you tried using Wi-Fi? it's quite anal when it isn't because of ports.

Unified Remote has a VLC remote, all be it small and only having the normal buttons - pause/skip/stop/mute and volume up/down it works quite effectively.

:( mine can't even find the vlc 'server'.

Trying to manually set it up but it's being a pain. Can't even view the web remote from my laptop in my network.

I hate the new Unified Remote mouse. The two sliding bars were much better for going down the screen. Now I have to use two hands! Bah!

Can anyone recommended an app to allow specific contacts to ring whilst the phone's silenced? Need to allow my works number in case I get a call out. Thanks :)
