Essential Android Apps

I find 1x animation speed and stock speed smoothest. Setting it to 0.5 or "Nova" the whole phone feels like it's being forced to animate fast and loses that visual fluidity.

Tried that setting again and damn it feels sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow! Could post this post before an app opens with those settings! :p :D

The phone can more than handle any speed setting :)

Not losing fluidity, but the sense of lack of it. There’s nothing fluid or smooth about a window that is animating in half the time it should naturally of what stock Android JB has. It just feels like it is being rushed on screen and while it is physically quick, 1x (Stock) is the smoothest flowing. I called JB iOS smooth in the past and that's exactly how it should be, not any faster animated or slower, it's just right.

Anyone know of an app that can make the screen stay on when using google maps? Its very frustrating to be following directions only for the screen to turn off and the gps signal to be lost.

Mine stays on when using Google Navigation. I'm sure it's done that for a long time?

If you mean just when you're looking at the maps as opposed to following directions, I'd be fairly sure Tasker can do this for you, as you open Maps and reset as you close it.

VERY impressed with the lenovo camera app so far:

Need to test it out a bit more to see what the quality is like though but so far it seems good :)

Nice app, I did a comparison and noted the differences.

- Samsung camera's video recording is better, it's smoother in motion but Lenovo's video recorder has smoother (less reactive but smoother) continuous AF depending on what you're aiming at. There is no touch AF though.
- Samsung camera only does 100-800 ISO, Lenovo does 60-1600.
- Lenovo's app is very similar in layout to Samsung but they have it done better and you have more information onscreen with a smoother menu structure as well as AOSP style flick left to view gallery which I like.
- Lenovo camera only records mono audio for the camcorder.
- Samsung camera resolves HDR photos better (more detail).

Can anyone do a quick check of the mobile gsmarena site for me using the stock browser and see if they get any ads popping up? Only a minor niggle hut a niggle none the less.

hmm just looked at the lenovo camera app permissions and it is uninstalled now! :(

Shame as it looked like the best camera app to date (decent UI, loads of options and effects) and the photo quality actually seemed better to me (at least from the few shots I took), less noise + a bit sharper I think and autofocus also seemed a bit better/quicker to me.

You can actually notice the difference in noise between the 2 photos that mrk posted, the lenovo app producing less noise.

It produces less noise because it uses way more noise reduction resulting is less detailed images.

Samsung camera app is still the best for quality and video smoothness.
