EU Speed limiter

So this is just another form of cruise control, and you still have the freedom to drive at your preferred speed.
Not unless you like annoying alarms and warnings going off...

'The ETSC’s recommendations also stipulate that “If the driver continues to drive above the speed limit for several seconds, the system should sound a warning for a few seconds and display a visual warning until the vehicle is operating at or below the speed limit again'

They should just make black boxes mandatory and have visual display of your insurance cost on the windscreen when you start speeding.

It should increase for every second you speed.

I can set my dashcam to do that. It’s just a reminder not to speed.

You can still turn it off fully.
Set to on its a soft limit, put your foot down and go above and you get chimes and dash messages.
Off and it does nothing.

Going to be fun (and probably reasonably profitable if you were inclined) to hack these systems.

Just got to find out where the frame buffer for the image recognition is being stored and overwrite it and then spoof the GPS signal, on some kind of cool down to prevent it flagging it as outside of min/max parameters, job done.

Exactly why if you get caught, it will be a very long jail sentence.

How exactly will you hide a speeding vehicle from the police?

One way to make sure it functions is to directly interface it to the engine, with a self deleting chip if accessed that kills the engine.

How are they going to prove it? Same way they do now, by having a cop follow you.

They’ll find a way, you’re naive if you think you free to break increasingly fascist policies with light protest.

A killswitch via warrant may even be on the cards, if it doesn’t function then it’s farcical to believe two things failed simultaneously.

They can add as many redundancies as appropriate to reduce he chance that it was just ‘broke’, increasing the chance that a valid charge can be made.

If you can imagine everyone will be driving a Tesla or a car like a Tesla where it is online, it has live updates, GPS etc. It will know where you are, how fast you are going etc. Everything will be recorded, video, sound, telemetry, all synced to cloud. They can prove it by the video of the person driving.

If theres one thing thats certain, people will find a way, just to stick it to the man.

And there is no way they will be able to enforce a kill switch, the first family to end up under an HGV would see the whole system scrapped.

Without wanting to go into it too much, part of my job involves the validation of telemetry. It really isn't hard for people to spoof it, obviously if you do it 24/7 you will get flagged but if you wanted an override for 30 seconds, its not going to get caught.

Automated HGVs with even more strict regulations? I don’t think so.

All the vehicles will be interconnected and killswitches would also act on the rest of the vicinity. You keep thinking in some weird future where you’re free to do what you want.

They can also just simply change speeding to be extremely punitive, rather than proving tampering, you must willingly speed after all. That would suffice until manual driving is banned altogether.

Who is going to spoof it? The car manufacturer?

Interesting though - if you look at the future;

If your car is on automatic.. and by law that should mean it complies.. then is your car company liable for prosecution in the event of infringement?
Like wise is the car company liable for damage in an accident occurring during automatic operations such as speed limiting?

If it's had multiple owners you still have to prove who did it.

The police rely on automation for catching speeders now. The more automated things get, the easier it is to cheat the system.
