Europa Universalis IV

Just picked this up yesterday started a game as Castile.

Can completely invade and overrun portugal but I cant annex them ?

boo

Don't have personal experience of Castile/Portugal but certainly for England/Scotland the best way is to Diplomatically annex them. Defeat them in war and force vassalize them. Wait 10 years and keep your relations really high, then you should have annex vassel option. This takes more time but is better in the long run. If you keep attacking people and taking land the AI will eventually all feel threatened by you and gang up on you first chance it gets so sometimes you need to play the long game.

Portugal may have overseas islands like the azores which means you cannot annex them until you take them. Either that or a total victory does not give enough warscore for total annexation.

Surprised there isn't more activity here on this game!

Does anybody know a way to 'lose' a Casus Belli? I have one on Morocco but they are not somebody I want to tangle with and my population keep moaning that I'm not standing up for our rightful lands, which costs me opinion or Monarch points to clear up. Ideally, there should be a way to 'surrender' the CB back to Morocco, kind of renouncing all claims on their land.

Usually player made claims have a time duration on them - they will cease at some point although it may take several decades for that to happen. I'm not aware of a mechanic to instantly cancel a casus belli, but I'm a relative novice to EU4 so perhaps someone else might be able to chime in and say otherwise.

It depends on the cause of the Casus Belli. I think in your case its due to the fact that you'll have a core on Cueta or wherever it is. You'll lose this automatically after 150 years

PS Hi all :) new to the EU4 thread as I didn't realise there was one on here! Play far too much of this game..

Anyone still playing this on a regular basis? I've not gone near it for a few months but last week gave it another crack and can't get enough! Currently playing as the Ottomans. I've got Bosnia to the west giving me grief about my annexation of Serbia and I've got the Marmalades (Marluks?) in the East trying to annoy my pal's in Yemen.

For anyone that's interested the game is £11.89 on steam for another 48hrs.

I have all the Paradox games, due to Steam sales, including EU4, but have only actually played CK2 which I think is fantastic. I thought I should now try to get into Europa Universalis but I thought since I have EU3 and all its DLC I should give that a go before EU4. Man, what an absolutely fantastic game. I'd tried a couple of times to start a game before but it was all too confusing compared to CK2, but this time I have made a more concerted effort and am loving the game. At this rate it could be some time before I actually go to EU4. Will probably repeat this cycle with HoI3 when HoI4 comes out.

currently playing a papal state game: want the new achievement where you have to have teutonic order and the livonian order as marches, god knows how im going to manage it lol

I didn't know there was a thread!

All it takes really is a few hours commitment, a bit of reading, so worth the effort though. It makes Total War look like a kids game really, though I suppose people play those more for the battle elements - which did use to be good.

For those that haven't, I'd definitely recommend getting the Veritas et Fortitudo mod, adds a lot more to the game (although some of its ideas have been added in officially now) and gives a better overall experience in my opinion.

My Milan game that I started a few months ago (and kind of got out of habit of playing sadly) is fantastic. If it borders the Mediterranean then I either own it or have a claim on it basically! Last thing I remember was my nation (Nova Roma) basically taking on the HRE and putting them on their arse :)

Is that mod iron man friendly?

What is this game like?
Is it as mind benignly hard as crusader king 2 to pick up, can I conquer the world by force.

Any good videos that show game play mechanics?

I've found it much harder to get in to or understand than Crusader Kings 2 unfortunately.:( I'm sure its a great game, as ck2 is but I just couldn't get my head around it.
