European Grand Prix 2010, Valencia Street Circuit - Race 9/19

Why is Webber in such a foul mood?!

Its quite possible that Webber has been told, in no uncertain terms, who the No.1 driver is and as such, he must drive with that in mind. This means that if Vettel is directly behind him in the race and the team tell him to "conserve fuel", he must allow his team-mate to overtake him.

In effect, he would've been told that he will not receive the backing of the team, should he wish to go for the WDC, unless Vettel is mathematically out of the WDC.

If you were in the above position, would you be depressed?

Not sure what would make me happier tommorow, the unlikely event that England beat the Germans or Vettel hitting the armco.

I think I will take Vettel hitting the armco please, irritating little ****.

Button haters have a quick read of the above. Note how he blames himself and not the car. Some on here said previously he kept moaning about the car than him.

I can't see how anyone can say that. He is a straight up guy - how many people would actually admit that they couldn't touch their team mate in quali! I have developed a massive respect for Jenson this year.

He's not fast enough to put webber to retirement which says a lot, so he gets rank pulled within the team, by whichever method possible.

Its not his fault if RedBull value him so highly that they are making him their No.1.

I agree that we have seen cracks in his performances this year, so his stock may have fallen a little because Webber has beaten him a few times. I think Webber has definitely raised his game in the last few races, but had Vettel not broken down earlier on this season, he would've been leading the Webber and the title race.

I still hold Vettel in high regard, as do RedBull.

Well yeah it's gonna be boring but it is very very close at the top. It's more interesting I think in some ways for the team battles - though I'm a bit sad that Massa appears to have gone off the boil.

I am ready to admit I've been a big schuey fan for many many years and I'm getting a bit fedup of some of the comments the beeb guys keep coming out with. So every season and and every win schuey ever had were because his car was a beast.

Personally I think he was foolish to come back. You could see Brawn were on a downward spiral last year and they aren't moving forward this year. If you assume Rosberg is 'very good' then 12th being their best effort shows the old man isn't that bad. I think if testing was allowed things might be a lot different.

I hope he sticks with it for next year, Mercedes should probably have a better contender for next year then they do now.

I think Merc have done quite well considering they are still basically Honda/Brawn and were a back of the field team until 2009 and are still up there in 2010 and almost holding on with developments. They are still a 'new' front running team and it will be a couple of seasons until the Merc money pumped in shows some results.

I really don't think they will be. I said when everyone got excited about Mercedes that it will take years for them to get to the top. Honda/Brawn laid off too many people. There was no strength in depth at Brawn, hence them all but giving up on the Brawn by mid-season to concentrate on this years car.

It will take years to build the personel back up to challenge and all the rumours have been that actually mercedes aren't looking to pour that much money in.

Brawn went steadily backwards last year and Merc are doing the same this year. Button knew how much developement work went on with the car last year and he bailed.

At ferrari MS might have achieved more but Mercedes just don't have the numbers yet.

I remember reading that Mercedes aren't pumping much money in atm, a lot of the money is from Brawns championship last year and through sponsorhip, particularly from petronas.

but they wont because they are developing 2 cars with the staff cap they took on early while everyone else hasnt done it yet.

next year everyone else will have a car thats had much more staff working on it again so brawn will be crap again but maybe the upgrades wont seem as cack.

Possibly, but I would've thought the staff levels will be higher then just after Brawn laid people off now, with all the championship money and Mercedes investments. They will probably be at a disadvantage to the likes of RBR, McLaren and Ferrari, but I would've thought they should be able to compete with Renault for best of the rest.

Yes that is what the rumour is, that pulling back from Mclaren and buying into Brawn was a smart slow withdrawl from f1 that saved them face. They no longer had to pump the gazillions into mclaren and are providing very little funding to what was Brawn.

There was a big piece on pitpass as well about how little Mercedes are actually putting in now, can't find it for the life of me now. They are in effect just drip feeding back in the money they got back for the 40% sale of Mclaren.
