European Grand Prix 2016, Baku - Race 8/21

I find it strange that Rosberg was off the pace in three practice sessions compared to Ham then is much more comfortable in qualy, whereas Hamilton struggled.

Could it be that Rosberg was sand-bagging during practice? Maybe Rosberg managed to get a sweeter setup?

Gutted for Lewis but I think he knows he screwed up a bit today. Hopefully he can get a bit of damage limitation tomorrow wrt the championship.

I saw an interview with Rosberg saying that he was on different tyres compared to Lewis who had the super softs on so this may of been why plus Rosberg tends to focus on long race pace so maybe had lot more fuel onboard.

This track looks like it has plenty of places for over taking unlike the boring Monaco so it could be interesting but I can see it being boring with red flags or saftey cars spoiling the action.

As they have been for several seasons. Rosberg is flattered both by the car and data from the other side of the garage. So undeserving of that seat.

Yes I'm sure for the spells, however small that Rosberg got more out the car Hamiltons side ignore any of rosbergs data. Hamilton is also flattered by the car, one small change to the car that wasn't to his liking and he became 2nd best last year. He was all at sea with a tyre pressure change wasn't it? Fortunately for the pair of them they have such a car advantage over the last couple of years.

Sharing data is nothing new, if all Rosberg has had to do to beat Hamilton is copy his data then perhaps Hamilton isn't getting the best from his own set ups ;)

Which is odd, as it would imply Rosberg's side of the garage don't know what they're doing yet they were working on Hamilton's car last year.

Not all the engineers as far as I know, however the setup comes from driver feedback. Hamilton finds the best lines, the limits, alters the setup and Rosberg doing the same can't find any performance or confidence in the car. Copy Hamilton's setup, watch videos of his onboard laps, copy it and now Rosberg is starting from the point Hamilton provided and puts Hamilton under pressure.

I think if the team had a complete black out of data from one side of the garage to the other as in the Senna vs Prost days, Rosberg would rarely be anywhere near Hamilton's pace.

It was a brake change that Mercedes would have reverted had Hamilton been in a title fight. Saying Hamilton was second best during a period of the season when he quite frankly didn't need to even bother turning up is a bit pointless.

The point is it took a small car change to totally swing the position of the best placed mercedes. That's how **** modern F1 is that a driver who is frankly **** can win races against someone most people highly rate. That the title was wrapped up makes no difference, Hamilton isn't the sort of driver to want to let a rosberg beat him no matter if it's the first or last race. When that was happening you can bet they were looking at Rosbergs data and trying to sort out Hamiltons issues.

Although I anticipate being proven wrong on the first corner tomorrow, it looked to me like Hamilton was almost arrogantly pushing the limits on this new track.

I think we will see him carve through the field tomorrow on the back of this knowledge, taking advantage of many red flags. Think he will struggle when/if he gets to Rosberg though (and possibly the Williams, although thats a hell of a tow).
