EV general discussion

it's the same in my 20 plate diesel Passat. Random, black screens, wont connect to Android Auto and needs rebooting every other day. VW software division has been an expensive mess hence why they just put $5bn into Rivian.

My Xiaomi is unreliable with my Golf. Her iPhone is much more reliable. Haven't tried anything with stock Android.

Hi there
That house is so weird. Does it have an upstairs or are those roof lights? Is it Bedfordshire?

Agreed - just looks weird! Like a barn/church type structure.
A lot of houses only have the loft windows/dormers on one side of the house, so maybe they look the other way?

To keep it on topic, the red is nice on Teslas but they charge so much for it :o and that colour on the 5er is lovely too

Haha, it is short on windows on this side so does look a bit odd, but it's two stories with very high ceilings upstairs...think it's called a "chalet style bungalow" according to the planning.

It's a T shape with the front of the house being the "top" of the T, and the highest point you can see is the start of the "body" of the T going back.

Quirky design but we really like it.

Originally due to planning it wasn't allowed windows on the front as it would overlook an existing house when it was built, but this was overruled and found to be a nonsense as existing houses are 20+ metres away from where any window would be, so now got planning to put more windows in, but too busy paying for depreciation on a Tesla and fuel for a twin turbo 4.4l V8 so it'll wait...

Yeah, this was an existing stock one we got with a discount before Christmas in 2022 so that made up for the price a bit...shame Elon then slashed the RRP a few weeks later..

Looks awesome, would love a drive that big. Dangerous though as I'd definitely become a hoarder.

I think vw get brownie points for fundamentals - invested in inhouse motor and invertor and now have a class leading drivetrain (with preconditioning) ,
I've bought in anyway - ppe 800v platform too, a few software bugs, well, I'm a windows user.
Selling those trains into ford too, it becomes a commodity with good support & evolved reliability (unless its like wet belt cul-de-sac)

What did you buy

Yeah chalet bungalow, sorry to continue off topic
Chalet bunglow means its mainly a downstairs but with one or two rooms upstairs, or maybe more if its absolutely massive downstairs.

It has exactly as much space upstairs as downstairs (bar a very small % of restricted head height corners due to the sloping roof), I think it's just the style of the roof maybe?

What does this even mean in English???

I think he’s finally decided not to get an ID7 but fails to mention what or how he’s ordered something. Likely a Q5 etron

Not sure how millions of VW sold suddenly becomes appealing cause ford take the tech

Then its not really a chalet bungalow.
A bungalow is a building where the living rooms are all on one level.
A chalet bungalow is where the majority of the rooms are on the ground level and a bit extra is above. Sometimes called a one and a half storey house.
A house is where there are two or more storeys of roughly equal size ;)

Both chalet and normal bungalows rooves "should be" at the level of the single storey. So noticeably lower than a house.

But yours looks very unusual (in a good way) so I guess the architect used some artistic licence.

(I'll have you know my youtube consumption is less than 10mins a day - the secret is the ffwd/jump button easy to use on a laptop)

like a coach house with some windows ?

'Bought in' doesn't mean spending money in my view. Just means he thinks it's great
Thankyou - Kier Starmer needs to do something about English qualifications -
If only everything in life was as reliable as a VW, there are lots of worse options.

Slang and regional dialect isnt part of English language pope condescending.

You have swallowed the marketing PPE guff is what you really meant then yeah?
