Maybe if it was the NC5000 but not the 500.

Given the fact you have a Ioniq 5 on the drive, you should know how fast you can put in 100 miles of range while stopped for a pee.
Also the last time I did it, it was over days not a day, lots to see along the way not just driving past as fast as possible, if you were a nature hobbyist you'd get this.

It’s been possible to do the NC500 in a 30kwh Nissan Leaf since basically the day that version of the car launched in the U.K. back in 2016.

I seem to remember a shed load of press the first time someone did it.

Was it Chris Ramsey?

You should ask Jpaul for a video of it instead of imagining?

I know people who have done it and frankly you wouldn’t have to stop much more than I would in my F type.

I work at a place with 11,000 staff and we have about 3 chargers.
I have no idea how many of them live in property where they can't charge but I expect a lot.
There's no way I would have had an EV if my only option was to charge at chargers by Costa etc.

I agree with your sentiment, but he's not really wrong though. 99% of the issues are going to be monetary, not technological.

There is actually a lot of infrastructure up there. A lot of the accommodation also got the memo so finding a hotel with a charter is not a chore either.

I guess it's just how much planning one's comfortable to do before a trip like that. It seems much more difficult to be spontaneous in an EV. I think that's part of the romanticism with petrol too.

but if you didn’t have an EV how would you play the silent car game with neighbours.

That point surprises me that you wouldn’t have an EV if you couldn’t charge at home. You were previously insinuating people are stupid for not getting an EV

Hah, don't get me started on the issues we've had with our EV charger (albeit a trial V2H unit). Looped supply soon to be unlooped, overvoltages killing inverters, stacks failing... like all technology, in theory, it works, but it's not infallible!

Oh and the fact that ChargedEV has ONE installer covering an absolutely enormous region down here, meant it took 5 weeks to get the stack replaced.

Set your accommodation filter to ones with a charger, zero additional planning required.

Even if you do need to use the public network, charge when you stop anyway, not when the car is empty. There are few stretches where the gap between chargers is more than 40 miles these days. Modern cars ~200 miles real range.

You're not going to fit 5 people and luggage into the 370z. What other irrelevant top trump metrics are you going compare. A 20k motorbike being more fun that a 40k 370z.

Apologies for not being clearer but I specifically meant technologically, not financial etc. I wasn’t referring to the current home/destination charging infrastructure, but the potential with correct planning and funding. There is no technological reason it can’t be done, it was purely down to poor planning or lack of will and funding.

The Government are now offering grants for people with no off street parking to apply for home charging grants for pavement gullies. Why it took until this year for this major oversight is baffling and indicative of the poor planning and incentive for people to go EV.

Statistically 57% will have have access to a driveway. 26% don't drive. Only 4% of the cars on the road are BEVs.

How many of that 11k fill up an ice vehicle onsite at work. Are all 11k going to rock up to the same petrol station to fill up at the same time.

Personally without home charging I wouldn't get a EV either.. But then no one's making me do that.

 
Imagine if someone had taken the time to list a NC500 charging example with 12 points across the route.

I guess its another of those you must not stop to take a pee, look at some scenery etc jobs.

And of course all the nice to drive cars will do that 500 miles on one tank of fuel with no need to top up at any point along the route. Right?

What a load of b*******, I have never insinuated people are stupid for not having one.
I have always made a point it should be up to the owners and not thrown at them by the Government.
I have always maintained that if you haven't got a drive where you can charge for 7p then it's pointless having one IMHO.
At this point I would like you to find a post where I have said the opposite and called people stupid for not having an EV, if not shut the **** up.
I've called people stupid for reciting all the mythical claims about EVs eg they all catch fire etc.

Yesterday wife nearly got run over by a silent BMW ICE on Wickes because she turned straight round from the boot and she nearly walked into it.

The major problem here is that I know many people who live in terraced houses who can't even park in front of their own houses.
It's stupid that the Govt could be forcing them to have EVs.

OK Marty McFly, time to come back to the future. 2014 called, they want their 1st gen Leaf back ;)

Joking aside, it has been possible to do the NC500 in most modern EVs for years now. Unless you mean just driving non-stop, which even your 370z couldn’t do. And before you say you can top up in minutes, are you seriously saying you would do the NC500 in one sitting? Because with the usual tourist traffic it can take 15 hours. You would be stopping for food and poo breaks anyway.

No one is forcing them to have an EV, not anytime soon anyway. I'm pretty sure PHEV's are going to be a thing until 2035, even under the current government. So you are looking at 2050 before those cars are end of life.

Simple problem also comes with a simple solution which is called residents parking spaces. The vast majority of people would pay for a residents parking permit to guarantee a space outside of their house. It doesn't even need to be expensive and can be administered on a cost recovery basis.

If the permit displayed doesn't match the space, the car gets towed and the owner pays for the cost of the tow to get the car back.
