EV general discussion

Even if it saves you thousands of pounds? OK fair enough.

I don't really want to drive a 360mile round trip no. Especially if you go look at it and there's issues, plus traffic, accidents etc....
Ends up being a chore rather than something exciting.

No, but you use those prices to tell the the seller “I have cheaper options” and haggle. Tell me you can at least be bothered to do that? ;)

I live in N. Ireland and it really is less of an option for me. But I have used the “they deliver for a few hundred quid” line to haggle prices down.

I’m rubbish at haggling - if I want something, and I see the price and I’m happy to pay it, then why bother?

If it’s too expensive, I won’t buy it. I can ask for a cheaper price, but if they say no then what choice do I have if I actually want the thing?

What I found back in June when I bought my Leaf was that the dealers wouldn't budge a single inch on price. A couple even said if you can get it cheaper elsewhere I suggest you go there then.

That’s the norm these days, there’s no wiggle room for new or used cars, at least from personal experience and what I’ve heard from others.

I do love a haggle, I can be bothered to do some things...lol
But garages are funny now, they don't seem to budge. I've walked away over a car, when they wouldn't even take £1 off!
They just say, the price is the price....

I think the internet has made people look at cras via the 'list by lowest price first' and that of course has meant that dealers need to list their cars as cheaply as they can.

They'll get 20 people in looking at a car and odds are one will pay the asking price. Some businesses these days seem to be happy to run themselves into the ground rather than budge on price.

The cheapest car might not be the nicest one, and tbh that would always be a regret for me. Most compromises I make in life trend to come back and bite me.

Exactly. Thankfully car buying isn't the wheeler dealer "hold out yer 'and, av we got a deal mate..." BS of old. Generally now the price is the price.

@rodders £2k... You at least need to ask, get them to throw in all the services and MOT's if no price wiggle. Also if you are buying on finance and doing a trade in you might be able to squeeze more out them that way.

You said you don't want to spend £38k so don't. ;)

Yeah haggling is not about getting prices down, if they refuse to budge on price you can ask about service plans, or extended warranty etc.

The price might be the price but the dealerships have other incentives. Especially if the car is approved used.

It's more I prefer the money sat in the bank, I do struggle to spend big amounts of money, I loose so much sleep, even though we have the money to do it. Won't be doing finance.

Yeah, I can ask for service plans, but if I drive 1hr away, I don't want to drive that far for a service and MOT lol.
I'd probably push for more trade in value, but we have a nice Octavia VRS in decent condition, would prefer to sell private if I can.

There is one across in Brighton we are interested in, might take a look at the weekend.

Crazy money to spend on a EV that’s still got a lot of depreciation left.

Surely leasing is cheaper and allows you to keep money in the bank

unless they are taxed heavily as part of a trade war i think teslas will continue to sell well over here. Their cheap charging infrastructure continues to be a major carrot imo
The Model Y is assembled in Germany so that one will probably avoid anything the EU does. Model 3 is all China though.

In any case, there doesn’t appear to be any signs from the U.K. government that they are looking to put any tariffs on Chinese cars. US tariffs don’t impact what we import from Mexico, China or the EU. If anything it could make those products cheaper to us if there is a surplus of supply which can be sold to us.
