EV general discussion

Holy poop you actually read utter trash like that? Tabloid media epic fail as usual.
you didn't know how to read times articles lol

The Alfa Junior Veloce is getting pretty good reviews. Its quite expensive once your added on the fancy seats though. Standard seats make the interior look low rent, the Sabelt seats are over the top. could do with some middle ground really. All the wheels look awful though

Does the Cupra fall under the VW umbrella? Just wondering whether it would be as well supported in terms of warranty as the ID3. Cupra deals seem better at the moment.

We've had Cupra and Seat over the years and never really had any issues with the MK Seat branch, which is now turning into Cupra a long with many others now it seems.

Having said that, over 5 cars now, we've only ever had 2 issues. One was a new battery requirement and the other was the phone wireless charging pad stopped working. Both resolved without hassle.

Yes Cupra are now another VW Group brand alongside Seat, Skoda etc.

They're trying to cultivate a bit of a different image to the Seat cars they're based on - look at the new Seat Leon vs Cupra Leon - much more different styling now.

I think they're going through a phase of trying to get the brand out there a bit more so there are a lot of decent deals about.

In terms of warranty, I think all Cupras are offering 5 year 90,000 mile now (with EV battery being 8 year 100,000 mile), whereas I think VW are still only offering 3 year 60,000.

Honestly I think it's one of the most confusing rebrands in the history of automobiles!

You have Cupra, the brand. But if you get a sporty Seat... it's a Cupra. So all Cupra's must be sporty? Well... no. Some models are only under the Cupra brand, but come with entry level drive trains. So WTF is the difference between Cupra and Seat other than an appetite for copper trim details?!

All that aside, the Born is nice!

The sportiest Seat you can buy now is an FR Sport I think, Cupra is no longer a Seat trim level (maybe on a couple of legacy models yet to have refresh?)

The difference now is Seat is the budget brand offering (and judging by Skoda RRPs, placed below Skoda now), Cupra is the 'sporty' brand, even if that's only in looks not outright performance.

Seat is being phased out as a car brand IIRC. Once all the existing Seat models are EOL, it will go.

Seat is to be used on other mobility products, or that is what I thought was the plan anyway.

Polestar did the same

Well now the born VZ is 330hp vs the VW stable of 282hp on same motor tech

And the born e boost motor (option) was 230 vs id3 204hp

I was more referencing @lordrobs point about entry level drive trains, things like the Leon and Formentor come with a 150bhp 1.5TSI through to 330bhp AWD 2.0TSI

There hasn't been a SEAT Cupra for a good few years now, any models with a Cupra variant available were switched across fairly quickly.

That was the plan at one point but recent announcements seem to suggest they'll be kept around for a while yet. They're facelifting the Ibiza and Ateca this year, though it's a shame the Leon didn't get a facelift like the Cupra version did, only a spec refresh.

It makes sense to me that they refresh them, they still need to sell their ICE models until the replacement Cupra line up is fleshed out, new BEVs launched, production ramped up etc.

They’ve not announced any new Seat BEVs so that’s the natural end for Seat cars at that point.

The 5 year, along with the current deals, are tempting, certainly if I go down the cheaper run around car route. Will wait until this or next summer I think, easier for me to have the lease deal end during my time off work than this time of year.

In addition to this, any alternatives to the Cupra at or near the price point?

I must admit that a car with full warranty, no MOT needed, little servicing, cheap fuel and lower insurance is very tempting, especially when I’m bored of driving and more often get stuck in traffic or go down a pot hole.
