EV general discussion

The Indra Smart Pro got installed today. Talk to me about energy tariffs, is there an out and out winner or do I just stick Charge Anytime onto my OVO account?

It would be great if somebody could make a SOP on this, I only know about two providers.
It would be great to see what other companies offer like Tomato, Eon etc and add to the list.

1) OVO Anytime means you only pay 7p/Kw at anytime you charge your EV (obviously)

2) Octopus iGo gives you a schedule when you plug in. You will always get 7p/Kw from 23:30 to 05:30 and that's also for your home appliances.
However with the schedule you will see time slots and at the moment it is telling us we can have 7p/Kw from 21:00 to 05:30 and that's when we put the washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher on. We've saved loads of money per month on this alone.

You will have to weigh up which is better for you and family.

Drove in one pedal mode for the first time today. Certainly a different experience, only had to use the brake a couple of times. Seems to have saved a bit off my journey and not all that problematic to use.

I found it very weird - turned it off so the car coasts if I lift off like and automatic would. Much prefer to be in control of when the car brakes in normal driving…

Once you get used to it it becomes second nature to use it. We've had it on the last 3 EVs and you get much more used to using the throttle as a speed regulator rather than a go faster pedal and letting the car regen when slowing is just a case of reducing the throttle input to control the retardation amount. Now i've had it its strange driving the car and having to use the brake pedal. Takes a second to remember when the battery is > 90% full and regen quantity is reduced on the iPace until its got somewhere to put the recovered power.

I hate not being able to lift my feet off the pedal and coast so I always go min regen

On all cars apart from Teslas the braking is regen to start with anyway so there should be zero (or positive as you can now coast without regen) efficiency impact

Mercedes have a good system where you can change the lift-off regen using the ‘gear change’ paddles on the steering wheel. From full to nothing (coast6 you can control your speed going down hills without having to move your feet!

Yeah paddles would be ok, but in the meantime just set it to minimal and use my foot :)

I just hate the idea of my foot slipping off the throttle at 70mph on the motorway…
on the motorway i just use cruise control........ if i get some empty road and want to have a play it does not stop me giving it some welly but to be honest motorways are not the place to have an engaging fun drive anyway so usually just set the car to (indicated) 74mph and leave it too it.

Agreed - 90% of the time on a motorway I’m on adaptive cruise at 70. I just have to remember in the other half’s car the CC isn’t adaptive…

Adaptive regen is pretty good on the whole in the mini too. Trying to workout which I prefer.

you know... i have been driving with max regen on my ipace since i got it..... and my lad does struggle with travel sickness on long journeys sometimes.

if the ipace regens via the brake pedal even if regen is on minimum then i may try going back to old school driving with a brake pedal then. i was almost sure it worked that way but my mate has a tesla and he was the one who said he was not sure it would as his doesnt....... and as real men dont read a manual i never got around to finding out for certain ;)
