He’s not an EV expert. He just takes all cars apart for a living and does some consultancy for many OEMs.

Solid state are not at commercial scale yet. So anyone can make the statement about thae game changer they might be when they arrive. Just like nuclear fusion. However energy density doesn’t really solve charging time.

Nuclear fission has been around for many decades and is what powers most of the western world.

That P4 looks alright, but the black (I assume plastic) side skirts and bumper trims make it look cheap in my opinion. I don't understand it, can't imagine it being targeted at those would have bought something like a Volvo cross country.
 
Hydrocarbons are like Tom and Jerry. When you just have one it doesn't work, unless you want to make Tom work on its own then you do by hook or crook. Seems to be by crook based on the stuff already invested in hydrogen and pushing an agenda.

The hydrogen can be used 2 ways, the most likely is to provide electric as the method of propulsion.
The least likely is in a direct burn environment since its less efficient and also produces some nasties. The nasties come from the air.

The two real world issues with hydrogen is the bulk. Even highly compressed it still requires a large amount of space and many people wont fancy sitting on an ultra high compression bomb ;)
Secondly the energy required to make hydrogen will mean its less cost effective so if it does come along as viable its certainly not going to replace batteries, but it may sit alongside as an option for people who want to fuel often and quickly.

Suggest watching this, or the earlier ones he has done as to why its pretty unlikely we will see the cars people think we are going to see based on hydrogen.

 
It’s basically a great way to tell people you know enough that hydrogen exists but not even close to understanding the real world implications of such a large scale system need. TL:DR don’t recognise physics.

Full on Dunning-Kruger stuff.
 
I just can't see how battery powered cars are the future, UNLESS battery technology is seriously improved.

We all know people with phones, laptops etc that don't hold charge anymore. What will happen when that's the case for car batteries? Simply replace the battery?
 
True, 2015 they were not the future.
2023 they are now the present.

Household batteries continue to be thrashed to death as expected, car batteries with multicell batteries far better managed.
 
May be a while before I go electric. I drive old and cheap cars historically 2k or less (but haven't bought a car in a while so not sure how bad the impact is on the market and if prices have started to go back down yet.)

Would want to have a driveway or garage so that I can charge without paying a premium.

You can't compare a phone/laptop battery to a battery in a BEV - The batteries in these devices do not have any hardware management or Battery Management System (BMS). Only recently have phone O/S started to have software managed battery charging.
There are plenty of high mileage, 10+ year Tesla Model S's running on the OG battery, with 80-90% of the life left.

I think it is there to disguise its size more than anything else.

Think the lack of rear screen whilst odd is a non issue to, having had a number of high riding SUVs you don't tend to see much out the rear unless it's many car lengths away, tend to just see roof tops, a camera here is probably more useful.

There is an option to have the side lower plastic elements in body colour
