Whys it matter if you get a big battery and want a performance orientated EV though. Speed is the killer of range rather than accel anyway.

Drive some more Ev. You won’t get much below 200 in an ipace no matter how you drive it in my experience unless you sit at 100mph

Also if you drive fast so you need to charge there’s always that drive slower no charge needed view. Or of course just leave earlier.

But the brake pedals don’t do regen, they are just brakes. I don’t like OPD at all and prefer coasting or very low regen with full regen available using the brakes.

The worst range I ever got in my I-Pace was 187 motorway miles in -2c winter sleet and rain in a headwind at 72 mph. I got 240 mostly motorway miles a few days back at speeds up to 78 mph and an average of 63 mph (Republic of Ireland speed limits from 100 - 120kph). I was not holding back but was not blatantly speeding either.

What petrol car is that you have? Will drop to half the mpg on a proper blast , the bi-direction of a BEV power (acceleration - discharge / deceleration = charge battery) makes a huge difference to the energy use, very hard to take 50% off the range on the road. Recharging the HV battery clearly an advantage to a petrol thats dumping energy as heat into brake disks.

I only drive 38miles each way so you have to be doing something crazy to empty a EV… business case yeah right, that’s just a side effect of worrying the resulting time at home the 3 pin. Granny charger can get the battery full again.
Just looked - Monday i took a steadydrive home 3.3miles/kWh, yesterday i was late so pressed on as appropriate with several overtakes etc and 2.9miles/kWh. Do similar in my Defender and 35mpg is more like 20mpg!

This is what I like about it. Consistent. A lot of real world 200cars can do 170-230 depending on weather. Not really been that impressed with the m3 LR range to be honest. But I think the aircon is pretty thirsty (pulls 40A peak). The Kia EV6 was about 220, decent

I regularly get over 220 miles out of my standard range model 3 which I call a ‘200 mile car’ as it will do 200 in rubbish winder weather. I’m surprised that you’d say you were not impressed with the range on the long range version. It should be doing 250-280 miles if it was a recent model.

Was the EV6 a AWD or RWD model? Either way the model 3 should do much better than 220 miles.

The problem is that what your or I get means nothing to the next person when taken in isolation. So for you getting 200 miles in rubbish weather in an SR+, yet someone else might get 180 miles. Same for me saying the I-Pace gets me 270 summer miles and 220 winter miles on average.

I haven’t but I expect to test drive one soon. The model 3 will be traded in shortly as I need something with a tow bar.

The reason I asked is I know the AWD version gets materially less range. If all Simon could get out of the RWD is 220 miles then that’s a problem.

Okay so its a guesstimate at best which is frankly really poor contribution to a comparison like his. People drive different routes at different speeds with traffic. Data is king and this only comes from experience.
 
Gt line AWD. To be honest all these are on long trips where range matters. On my commute I’m sure it will be more but with a charger each end of the commute the range isn’t even a concern. My cupra Born still has the record for commute from all I’ve tried at 5.6m/kWh.

The one that did surprise was the VW Buzz which 70-75mph with aircon will do 3m/kWh. Not bad for a 2.5ton brick

Makes sense it was the AWD, I’d be looking at the RWD for the extra efficiency/range which is pretty important when towing.

The pull for sticking with Tesla is mainly down to charge network being more of a known quantity but I do want to check out the competition which wasn’t available when I got my Model 3.
