Sky News..

the poorest in society don’t drive in this country

Eh? They don’t?
I wish that presenter would come and work with me for a day and see just how little money some of our customers have, let alone the worry about swapping out their cars for something greener.
They both made stupid points. I think what the presenter meant to say is the porters In society don’t buy new cars…

That would have been the line of questioning to go down but once it came out, it was hard to go back.

From BBC:

"From January, just over a fifth of vehicles sold must be electric, with the target expected to hit 80% by 2030.

If they fail to hit the target, manufacturers will face heavy fines of up to £15,000 a car."

Doesn't sound like new ICE cars will remain affordable.

Not sure why this is a problem. If they are not doing the vast majority fully electric by 2030, they are probably stuffed anyway. They should be approaching the steep section of the S curve right now.

One of the quotes in the article talked about average used electric car prices being double ICE but fails to recognise that the vast majority of used electric cars are both newer and stacked with more premium cars. Without at least controlling for age, stats like that are just frankly misleading.

It also said used electric car prices are increasing despite them dropping like a stone over the last year.

Very sloppy from the BBC IMO, I’d expect this from the daily fail.

Just had this through from the council, at least they're trying! No idea how far 3.3 million would go though in reality.

''The Council was recently allocated £3.3m from Tranche 1 of the government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Capital Fund. Based on current estimates, this funding will allow for the delivery of up to 2,000 charging sockets at both on-street and in car park locations. In order to deliver on this, it Is now looking for residents help to nominate possible locations...''

how big is your council - 2000 7kw chargers is not to be sniffed at.

Ours just installed 6 22kw chargers in every car park they have and I’ve seen people start to use them. A load of them are right next to a block of flats as well, happy days for them.

It’s one of those ‘if you build it, they will come’ things.

Tesla managed to open its super charger at Fleet South services today. 8 V2 chargers (and probably a couple of Apple Green units).

Apparently it only took 6 years to get the grid connection in place for that site…

Such a shame it was held up so long by a wayleave but better late than never.
More should be done in an official capacity to enable connections faster.

Were grid connections for tesla top priority for National grid - are Tesla now obligated, like France, to open them to all comers, before licenses are granted.

the upcoming eu/uk rules of origin in January could add 10% tarif on cars between eu & uk - EU doesn't seem to be backing down, & Rishi hasn't yet said if this will be waved for eu->uk imports;
that's going to make the fifth more difficult.
if you are buying an EV today for new year delivery are they telling folks if their car might be liable.

Is that a question or a statement? Not sure I’ll assume a question!

This grid connection has been in train for 6 years, it long predates any government support for getting grid connections. They would have paid for it themselves, probably sharing costs only with Apple Green.

Tesla are not obligated to open new chargers, only where they have benefited from the government scheme for MSA’s/grid connections.

It was originally meant to be 12 stalls but 4 Tesla stalls were removed and replaced with Apple Green units (hence sharing costs with Apple Green), probably too cover the requirement for all MSA’s to have at least 4 by the end of the year.

If they fund it themselves, it’s their capacity to do what they please with. They’ll open them up (perhaps not this specific site right away) anyway because it makes sense from a utilisation (aka profit) perspective.

“We”, ie Lord Frost signed us up for it in 2020, so it’s hardly unexpected and if the government was unhappy, surely they’d have either not signed us up to it, or already tried to change it. Can’t really blame the EU for that.

Someone has to supply the power irrelevant of how ‘self funded’ they are

No sure what jpaul incoherent hypotheticals is about. It’s like suggesting McDonald’s need to provide water to their restaurants as part of how they deliver a cup of Coca Cola to a drivethru window.

Jpaul = jplato (just no custard)

It’s not the National Grid, it’s the DNOs (District Network Operators) linking the infrastructure at capacity needed to the business sites the chargers sit on.

I wagered 50 quid to myself when I saw your name as last post it'd be about your favourite topic, bullying jpaul.

I wonder if it w ill happen over in blighty as well.... and if it does I wonder if they will get the Tesla preferential rates?

That is to do with NATS rather than CCS, nothing to do with costs so won't happen here.

You get £50. But seriously I can’t be the only one thinking it, but then I have a habit of saying what everyone is thinking and taking one for the team.

If you are feeling left out just let me know, happy to share the love/provide the clarity.

PS. I bet myself £100 you would reply in defence. I’ll pop a Paypal invoice over.

It’s already here in UK and Europe. I used them several times driving to Italy. As journey said it’s NACS. Which is the prevalent connector in the states and the more compact Tesla proprietary connector.

If you want the preferential member rates you pay the £10.99 monthly subscription.

Did you like the part where I added context to DNO and national grid is your value only from pretending to be Banki Moon.
Did you reply to me twice? Born2sk8 already replied with something actually useful rather than saying DNO and naming an organisation.
