EV general discussion

Don’t get me wrong, I have used it but normally only as a quick sense check when going somewhere new but I do take it’s output with a punch of salt. The nav built into my car is far batter.
Was really useful for planning our road trip to Scotland

Although tbf about 50% of the time we didn't follow the plan because someone needed the toilet or got hangry before the scheduled stop :D

This is what I meant by it doesn't really take into account when you need to stop. Lets face few plans make it past first contact or the first flask of coffee.

The Lotus Emeya is a charging beast - 69.9 kWh in 15 mins !

3 mins -> 13.6 kWh

That is FAST, hardly enough time to go for a quick toilet break. It must have a >100kwh battery as well.

Who said EVs are not the future? Just don’t tell them the price of this one!

But random fires, AI with a penchant for kidnapping drivers, inability to tow a caravan 500 miles, 72 year olds having to get up at 4am to find a charger, if they can find a working charger. Not to mention the total lack of driver interaction and engagement.

Nah they’ll have to prise my 1.2 litre petrol car keys from my cold dead hands.

/sarcasm

You forgot it can't do 600 miles on a charge without stopping like their Trusty 30 yr old Volvo diesel..

My other halves company have taken Tesla off their company car lists due to repair lead times.
They self insure (so only 3rd party in effect to relate to domestic) and they were finding that repair times could be 3-6 months.

As they had to find drivers cars (most of the time short term hire in) they found the real costs of the Tesla just didn't make sense if there were any off road times due to repairs.

I think that issue would be present if Tesla was ICE powered frankly.

The #legacyauto comparisons doesnt really work in their favour when you look at the buyer support mechanism.

I’m hearing similar lead times for I-Pace repairs and some very high insurance quotes on the I-Pace forums. I think the insurance companies look at average costs and repair times when deciding quotes and this would obviously go sky high due to months of hire car costs.

There are definitely issues in the tesla repair network, the biggest is the lack of approved repairers. While you can get your car repaired anywhere, many owners will insist on an approved repairer. Parts are allegedly less of an issue now.

The other issue is that much existing workforce is not trained on the high voltage so they can’t touch it.

I wonder if that MG ZS kidnapping was a virus planted by the Chinese? I mean it’s obvious China want to rule the world. So what if they plan for us all to buy cheap Chinese EVs then activate kidnap mode all at the same time. Voila (or whatever the Chinese equivalent is), most of the western population are stuck in their cars and the Chinese waltz (or whatever the Chinese equivalent is) in and take over the world.

It’s so obvious this was a glitch and that MG ZS activated early. Whoever made that one better stay away from open windows… or is that only a Russian thing?

I for one welcome our new Chinese overlords :p;)

They don't need to. The Chinese are slowly taking over the world by offering to build infrastructure across Asia and Africa. When these poor countries can't afford to pay it back, China takes ownership. If the host country kicks off, they can turn the power/water/communication off. That's who your buying from.
