EV general discussion

They don't need to. The Chinese are slowly taking over the world by offering to build infrastructure across Asia and Africa. When these poor countries can't afford to pay it back, China takes ownership. If the host country kicks off, they can turn the power/water/communication off. That's who your buying from.
Whoosh...

Is the Tesla repair+insurance issue Uk/eu centric - I thought they'd had to release right to repair manuals for 3rd parties in the USA
... and with usa litigious view, group actions etc. if they aren't providing spare parts promptly that would get attention

e: and they have tesla's own insurance there - with faster repair times ? not yet in eu.

Compared to American car insurance, gosh no.

According to google the average 'full coverage' car insurance is >$2000/year, the UK is <£500 and the insurance excesses are huge compared to the UK.

The entire insruance market is the wild west over there compared to here. It's even possible to under insure over there against 3rd party liability so they may not even pay out all your costs in a non-fault claim against a 3rd party. You then have to take separate legal action against the person you are claiming off to attempt to recover damages. Here is the kicker, the reason they are under insured is probably because they don't have any money or asses you could recover from your legal action so if you want your car fixed, you have to claim on your own insurance if you have full coverage sending your own premiums sky high.

Lets not even talk about house insurance that doesn't actually cover the costs of getting health care.

Tesla insurance is expensive in the USA too, I pay almost $2000 a year to insure my Model S. For context the BMW M850i I used to have was less than half that...

And yes car insurance is a mess here, the minimum required third party liability limit in some states (including mine) is $5,000

Most people with expensive cars have under-insured motorist cover for that exact reason.

EV insurance costs seem ridiculous at the minute. Has anyone had a quote/renewed in the last month?
Just came in here to ask this, was an article online this week about how people are seeing the EV insurance sky rocket to thousands. I've seen a couple of burnt out Teslas this week, one in a multistory car park, so I'm not surprised insurers might be getting worried about additional risk.

Mine went up a fiver after I shopped around, renewal offer went up about 20%.
Its not ev specific though as people at work with ice vehicles have seen large renewals.

Well, the ID4 arrived last Monday morning. My work commute is 135 miles each way, done twice per week as I stay away.
First trip was Monday night in poor weather conditions and it used 48% of the battery. Almost all motorway driving (M1,M25,M40) from Derby to Slough sat at around 70mph on the motorway.
Charged up whilst down there at a 50kw charger and was charging at 43kw.
Came back on Friday teatime and the display shows me averaging 3.7m/kw.
Car is so easy to drive, loads of interior space and I'm still getting used to everything. Android auto is a breeze to use.
I haven't had an issue with the haptic steering wheel controls apart from the up and down buttons working opposite (up goes back and down goes forwards on track selection)
Biggest real issue is the lack of illumination on the temperature control / volume bar under the screen, how that got missed I don't know.

The ID4 interior is what's pushing me more towards a Skoda Enyaq. Good to see your consumption figures though, I do a fairly regular trip into London using M40/M25/M4 of 100 miles each way.

Mine isn't due until April, but I just plugged in all my details in to Money Supermarket (via Moneysavings expert) and the cheapest quote was 50% more than my current insurance!

Weirdly Admiral (my current insurer) didn't come up as an option though.
