EV general discussion

Assuming you plugged your destination into the nav, it predicts what you'll arrive with. The energy 'app' tells you how much above or below target you are and why.

Do you get any heads-up that kw/m had dropped - like the average over last 20miles was less than your regular.
(does i-pace include wind direction into it's estimates like tesla reputedly does - whether it explains it's calculation though)
No warning but I could see it happening in real time well before the last 20 miles lol
If he was Euro side the higher speeds start to take effect when the range still has the longer term trims applied. That’s all.

It doesn’t use wind direction as it’s frankly absurd based on the macro conditions some areas have compared weather reports.
Reckon there was a bit of headwind and was going at 120kph (~75 mph) which tbf is a little faster than I do in the UK. Didn't honestly know it was that fast until I just looked now I'm home as the units only display mph or kph, not both at the same time.

Now checking the app, it says I managed 2.5 mi/kWh over 120 miles which is actually only 48kWh. I think there was something going on with the BMS after the battery fault diagnosis as the car said I set off with 70% battery which should have been closer to 60kWh I think.

Then when I unplugged from IONITY Channel Gateway the charger was telling me I had 51% SoC but the car was telling me 61%

I’d give it a good fill on AC when you get chance to balance the pack back up.

Were you using the car nav at the time?
Yep back to AC now the road trip is over so will see

Only really use CarPlay tbh. OEM nav never really does it for me (would probably make an exception for android automotive if I ever had one)

Any thoughts on the Enyaq 80? Decent mile muncher or a bit of a barge? I know it's a big car but I'm currently in a diesel VW Tiguan Allspace anyway.

Yup as other posted pointed out you will need to get one with the bells and whistles. Pretty much everything is an option with the enyaq. It's on my shortlist when my lease comes to an end

I had a look at them for a company car. Seem decent, but really need to spec them up as they’re a little basic. The coupe looks much better and seems often cheaper on lease, but not as practical.

But although it’s almost 10k more, the BMW i4 was offering far better deals than the base Enyaq, so although it’s not as practical at all, I ended up going for one of those. Ordered mid September for approx Christmas eta, but now delayed till “early march”!

Looking at the 80 Sportline, which seems to come with a fair bit of kit. I know there's an awd version too but not sure if it is worth it.

They are very practical. Not sure a Sportline is the way to go with these tbh as they are about as far from sporty as you can get. Just accept it's a wafty barge type thing and go full out comfort imo

The thing with the sportline is it's loaded with kit you might otherwise have to pay for with 'packs' on the lower spec models. Sporty it's not!

I love insurance at times... Managed to finally update the insurance from the Fiesta to the MG4 (to take effect on SAT) after the initial tries failed to find the car, and it was only £3 more than our previously policy. Quotes online were coming in around £100-150 higher than the Fiesta so was expecting something along those lines so very pleasantly surprised.

After the baffling quotes we were getting for an IPace (over £2k from our current insurer vs £500 ish for my Model 3) it was quite refreshing for some sense of normality.

haven't tried a better route planner ? - I thought they could be tuned with the typical m/Kw of your car and then make projections based on speed you set.
(pity you can't retrospectively check what they would have said, for temp/weather on that day)

do you have other European brand options (do wonder if UK lease companies are becoming wary of Asian brand residuals)
neighbour just got a base ID4, which seems to be what Cambridge water company are offering - for our local roads would be interesting to test drive enyaq/vw adaptive suspension option.

ABRP ok for a rough and ready reckoner but it's hardly the last word on precision.

edit: actually pretty close lol

Indeed,You don’t need to use a 3rd party app to estimate the consumption and navigation trip speeds when the car will do it for you and segment stuff.

Jpaul, FYI, This theorising the EV life through talk is tedious when you haven’t yet walked the walk.

ABRP is ‘okay’ as a ball park before you leave but it is ultimately overly cautious in terms of both energy used and charging speeds. You can configure it to be more accurate but I’m not sure I’d bother.

It kind of falls down where it can’t speak to the car to know what the actual is. It doesn’t really account for when you need to also stop rather than the car.

I know you can log into it with say your Tesla details but frankly I’m not handing over the keys to my car to some rando 3rd party.

I’ve linked mine to tronity in the past so does give consumption data over to ABRP but ultimately you need premium subscription for ABRP to work on CarPlay ontop of the fact it’s not better I only see few people or oddly not EV drivers recommending it

Don’t get me wrong, I have used it but normally only as a quick sense check when going somewhere new but I do take it’s output with a punch of salt. The nav built into my car is far batter.

Never by all accounts-

All us in the industry have been saying this would happen for the last few years - more will follow!

Your increased premium]s have all until now been paying for this .

Did you actually read the full article?

"In a statement sent to Insurance Times today (2 October 2023), the department store’s lending arm said it had halted offering new policies as well as renewals for EVs."
"It said the move came as Covéa raised fears over the cost of repairing the vehicles."

The issue is the underwriter not having the info on repair costs, which is expected given how new they are - so they guess as best they can and now like all insurance companies want to only be making money not actually paying any of it out.

EVs are a decade ahead old. Things like single pressings aren’t going to help with repairs. Also cars are taking longer to repair so hire car costs are increasing
