EV general discussion

Out of the range, the Extended Range seemed the more sensible option to me.

Surprised they haven't put that battery in to the xpower. Perhaps that'll be released next.

edit someone at work is claiming that most airport carparks are at your own risk

Correct. As are almost all other car parks, along with simply driving on the road...

However:

and insurance is void if anything happens.... surely that cant be the case?

The fact it is "at your own risk" is exactly WHY you have insurance - to protect yourself from that risk, so no, it wouldn't be void (unless you somehow managed to find a policy which explicitly excluded parking in airport car parks).

indeed. it was pre coffee and i was not awake enough to question them on that!.... besides it was bad enough being trolled from a bunch of them insisting it was yet another example of EVs being dangerous and causing fires. (no it wasnt and neither was their last example!)

No nnn on standard version!

I'd happily get that N though, they are massive cars having seen the non N daily at work, but they look so futuristic, and this N looks really cool and fun. The noises are gimmicks but they add fun and engagement, that's all I care about as well that that faux paddle box.

The future looks alright for sure.

Now I'm thing we should change our order to an xpower... Talk me out of it!
"In for a penny, in for a pound"

There's no handling updates or anything like that really over the trophy and reviews would suggest the step down feels more fun as it is not AWD, also the power is completely unnecessary, but yeah, I 'd still do it for the whoosh :D

I wouldn't listen to me though, I have a super zoomy motor that rarely goes over 30mph.

Yup I enjoyed the noise generator on the Abarth, this I5N is next level, didn't sound loud enough in the vid though. Anything that ups the feel of EV driving has to be applauded, I will certainly check one out, though I am struggling to commit that level of funds to another EV when I should get a last fast ICE before it is too late.

Seems decent the i5N
yes the synthetic gear change is interesting - doesn't seem to say if it also limits/plateaus the torque within the gears, more ICE like,
such that you might have easier balance without traction control cutting in going around a bend.

saw my first bz4 on tuesday local guy who had had an i3 upgrade, rear light cluster is very distinctive(suspect I will love 408 more when I see one) - as a non-chinese option don't know if they are competitive against the skoda.

to each their own and if it gets people into an EV and with a smile then its great i guess................... but i genuinely do not get the "fake" engine noise to make it sound like an ICE nor the engine cutting power and forcing you to pretend to change gears..... it almost reminds me of when i put playing cards on my bike spokes to make it sound like a motorbike.................. but in my defence i was in primary school when i did that.

i wonder back in the day when the synchromesh gear box 1st came out people wanted to buy a version which forced you to double clutch............... or even earlier maybe a petrol car which came with a reign next to the steering wheel which you had to whip the dashboard with to make the car go faster :D

again to each their own but i love the spaceship sound my car makes, even that is fake of course but it gives you an idea of speed and i instantly know which mode my car is in so it does have a purpose.

I would highly recommend test driving both (for an extended time if possible) before deciding, especially if you are unsure which one you would actually want.

My wife did briefly toy with the idea of the extended range Trophy (same price as XPower & has ~240PS vs the ~201PS of the normal Trophy) but ultimately she really wanted the Xpower variant specifically for its extra power.

The XPower drives like a firmer version of the Trophy and is generally rear power bias on <50% throttle (unless power is set to Sport) so day to day will feel basically the same as the Trophy. The fun really starts to happen in either full Sport mode or over 50% throttle in Normal mode... There is a notable audible change as both motors spin up and fire you down the road with reckless abandon.

Back to back the Xpower feels a little more planted when you start to throw it around but the difference isn't night and day. It is certainly no Fiesta ST in this regard but does feel quite similar to a Golf R or S3 (We have owned both a MK7 R and a 8V S3 for reference). Only thing missing is the engine note but for me at least I prefer the (relative) silence.

Efficiency wise the XPower is a little worse than the Trophy, hence the lower WLTP range total but in practice so far we are achieving over 4mile/kWh on our commutes. Thus the range of ~239 miles is pretty much bang on. At a guess the normal Trophy would likely net around 260-270 in the same conditions / commute profile.

Ultimately it just depends on what you want. Only thing I would say though is that you can match the "feel" of the normal Trophy in the Xpower, but you can't match the acceleration of the Xpower in the Trophy. :)

It's called engagement, something missing in EVs otherwise. And is completely optional so those that don't want it, just turn it off?

Prob wanted the lower weight for the 0-60 that everyone is talking about, look at the Born for a similar effect, the 58kWh boost has the better 0-60 than the 77kWh battery.
