EV general discussion

My 57 plate vectra is on its last legs and the first major fault and it's a gonner. :(

Looking at the equivalent replacement of a passat or an insignia, they're about 16k at 3 years old and just above average mileage. A standard model 3 tesla isn't much more than that and it's rrp was much higher than any of the ICE equivalent cars.

I can't resist a bargain even if I'm not that fussed about an electric car!

Edit: The Tesla would have slightly more mileage though which would be the tradeoff.

Some quite large depreciations in value on used EV's in 2023.
It’s like shock - cars lose money
Yes EV’s have depreciated a little more than fuel powered cars in recent months, but there isn’t much difference.

Used Porsche Taycan‘s and used Porsche Panamera‘s depreciate at similar rates, but as the Taycan is an EV it gets all the headlines.

Most EV’s are leased, where the end price of the car doesn’t impact the user. I just handed back my Polestar 2 and if it was worth just £1.50 it would make zero difference to me. [I’ve already made all my monthly payments based on calculations 3 years ago]

BMW look to be doing okay for EV sales Vs all their car sales in 2023 - they should be well placed to meet the ZEV targets in ’24
Ford and Landrover, not so much

@Gibbo any ideas where the Tesla thread went?

Looks like it merged to a Tesla thread.

Ah thanks! I searched for some of my own posts in the Motors forum about my Model Y but couldn’t find them, so I assumed that the thread had been deleted.

You know the electric Range Rover is in the pipe and the Jaguar credits count for JLR? I mean it’s not like many others ie Ford, may have held some December retails so they land in 2024 is it either…

</JLR spokesperson off> @dlockers
Yep - I’m aware :)
I’m just showing the data to represent the current position.

The BMW/Merc/Audi numbers are higher than I expected, BMW in particular. It's probably fair to say they are getting on with it though but I don't see many on the roads. Although they were very highly represented in company car land prior to EV's being a thing.

Ford and Toyota could really be in trouble, high volume low margin cars don't exactly have a huge amount of wiggle room to buy credits to cover. Plus the likes of Tesla and Polestar can't also sell credits to everyone, there simply isn't enough to go round...

Renault, Stellantis brands and Nissan are not looking great either. 8-12% is still way off the 22% required and most of the brands only have a couple models launched so far each.

Watched that the other day, I've been doing some research into Renault Zoe's to see which one to buy but I'd seen a couple of decent reviews about the Seat Mii as well and there are quite a few out there around 11k that are only just over 2 years old.
