EV general discussion

It's like buying a mini with a union jack in the lights.

It depends where you are. I think you're not at much risk of serious anti Tesla sentiment backlash in the UK.

People will key your old banger simply because they are drunk or such. You can read too much into these things.

Just had delivery date confirmed for my new company vehicle in a couple of weeks - to say the list we had was limited is an understatement so I ended up ordering a VW ID4 GTX (Other options were a Q4 S-Line 45 or a BMW i4 35, so way less equipment)

Quite looking forward to it in that my commute is a slog through slow motorway traffic and I expect Drive Assist and the adaptive cruise will make that a lot easier, but the G21 330i we've had for the last 2.5 years has been mega so shame to see that going.

Now we are moving into a house with a drive I'm actually hoping Elon causes Tesla to tank a little bit more and hope for some end of year deals on a Model 3.

i4 would have been quite a like for like replacement right? Or does it have less kit than the 330i?

A bit milder tonight and I only used 25.1kWh/100 miles, didn’t drive particularly gently either. A bit different to the 31.2kWh/100 miles I used in the cold this morning. It’s been amazing not having to de-ice the car and to get into a lovely warm car too, despite it being -4 earlier in the week. Would have struggled to even get into my last car.

It’s going to be great when we get a proper charger setup.

EV renewal time, mines up in Sep25 and got the email today. Obviously anything over P11D 40k is now more expensive, tempted by another Born V2 (Zenith have discount on stock 59kWh, DCC option, but £40 a month more as its a new build + option), would have to get a different colour to the Vapour Grey i have now too. VZ would be good but its about £130 more and I have the BMW for going fast.

Nothing else really appeals on there, R5 or A290 too small car/ battery for what I need. Dacia Spring is £160 a month just for a laugh

Rather liking the look of this, starting at £18k apparently:

Finally getting back in an EV since the gen 1 Zoe (many years ago!). Ford Puma BEV on order through company. Looking forward to this one. Hope it drives comparably to the ICE model which is nice, despite extra mass. Will see…

Interesting but I find it hard to get excited about a render of a car which may or may not look like that when it finally launches.

Don't think it's a render - but, in the predominate PCP per-month purchase domain will it be much cheaper than a rrp ~£25K renault 5 e-tech.

The exterior is quite nice but I hate everything about the interior, tiny "dashboard", no center console and stupid tablet that looks like a afterthought are my main gripes.

I often ask myself, what is the obsession with a dashboard if you don't need it to be huge, why make it huge, waste more materials, what function does it have exactly? Keeping the cost of a car down by using less 'stuff' makes sense, again a centre console, for what, sunglasses, or just to collect rubbish? It's a tiny city car after all, e-Up mark 2!

This is fine with me, at least there is a dashboard. Removing it entirely I agree really annoying but when there's a speedo and range meter, what else do you need

I always keep a few things like high-vis, first aid kit, torch etc. in centre console so I don't have to reach for the glove box or delve in the boot in an emergency. Though to be fair for my kind of use I wouldn't be buying a small city car but I'd still like to be somewhat prepared whatever I was driving.

Personally like the dashboard to be driver focussed and not too big or too small.

You think those images are of a real car? You must be on more Ketamine than Elon Musk.
instant search on google and I had looked at a video weren't you curious (you can do things efficiently outside of mobile phone constraints)
will be interesting to see if vw has expanded the newer efficient 550 drivetrain line , to kit these/id1 out

They recently opened a Tesla showroom near me, I stopped by and they insisted I try a new Model 3 LR AWD overnight, which I was happy to do. I was quite impressed, I thought it was well judged in terms of suspension and the noise levels and refinement were reasonable. It reminded me of a 3 Series in terms of dynamics, and handled well. The software seems good and I quite like the Theatre stuff.

The facelift Model 3 looks far sharper than the previous model, and I don't mind it in white either, it's quite nice being pearlescent. I'm actually thinking whether one might make some sense for me in the future, it would be a second car initially, probably the standard range model, new (avoiding premium car tax etc). I don't think they miss out on anything aside from the upgraded stereo? I'd need to check the standard one is OK - but I'm sure it's fine. Basic Autopilot seems to have the adaptive cruise and lane assist, which is good.

Do any owners worry about the Elon Musk sized elephant in the room? I wonder if his increasingly erratic behaviour might start to damage the brand in the future.
Yes, which is why I'm selling my Model 3 and getting something else.

Temperature seems to be the big factor with the efficiency. I think it's mostly just all batteries prefer to be around 20C.

Plus less heating is needed when it's closer to 20C - although I don't think this is as much as people think, even if the heater used 3kw (which is unlikely) that's 3kw per hour, in a battery that's 64kw+. If you spend 2 hours per days commuting that's 6kw per day (based on my puck figure out of the air) just on heating, I guess it adds up.

My Kona EV is known to be an efficient car and I need 2 chargers per week when it's doesn't got above freezing for the whole week. On the flip side during the warmer months I can have a spare 40% charge at the end of a week.

Yup the cabin preheating via the app is a game changer and can never go back! As well as car reviews we need app reviews (sigh)! But usually the bluelink app works, would be nice if it said why something failed.

Its a much smaller EDU than the 550, it even says that. Probably wasn't 'curious' on the basis he has functioning working eyes.

More morphine than the Pope... oh wait.

obviously it's smaller, but is the architecture the same ? - JLR must have ripped a 550 down, and obviously that closed the gap with model 3 efficiency
(despite the/id37 weight - keeps cropping up that, newton was on to a good thing)

e: if Musk disable Ukrainian satellite access - expect to see teslas being given away.
