EV general discussion

Octopus Go Intelligent worked well last year - you plugged in, received a schedule and it charged to that schedule.
Several months ago they changed this to a dynamic schedule, so the schedule changes through the night based on pricing, demand and fuel types generating. This is a pain when you have solar & home battery storage as you have to set the battery to not discharge, during the EV charging time, and the schedule keeps changing :(.

I tend to just stick to finishing at 05:30 now, when the solar & battery is set to start discharging.

Well if you want to test it tell it your departure time it 15:00 and you want it at at 100%, totally unachievable if you are at 50% battery (no idea what you are at) then plug it in.

Given that it is a Saturday and the grid is pretty green right (https://grid.iamkate.com/) now you'll get slots immediately and can see if the charging starts as expected.
At the moment the car is now charged to 80%, which is the set target and there are no current schedules in there.
I'll leave it at that and see what happens for the rest of this week, although not planning on much driving as we're taking a rest from all our recent hospital trips now.

If the ready time within the octopus app was set to 05:30 then surely charging should stop at that time irrespective of the charge target?
Yes - in my experience it does stop at that time. That's when you get the 'charge couldn't reach target message' (but usually within a close enough % anyway)

Among other reasons, this is why I stay away from Chinese cars. But TBH it's not only the automotive sector, so I'm not getting all high and mighty. I know the tin my iPhone was likely mined by children..

edit2: will be reposted later due audio issues

Ok thanks, that's what I thought would be the expected behaviour, however the charging had continued beyond the set time this morning...

But if you check your octopus bill and look at the 30 minute segment for each they should be at the 7p rate.

There tends to be a bit of a delay for bump charging in my experience and for me the app always say failed but it does indeed work.
Yes same.
I bump charge every day, to charge from my home solar, and it takes a couple mins to start, then it might say failed but the car is actually charging.

What? the video is about nefarious practices, not reliability. he took it down due to audio issues, so have a watch when it's reposted later
You are talking about the JayEmm video - he's talking about the user 'Cuke2u' above with charging issues on his BMW

This has been happening for decades already though. All of the those car magazines you read in WH Smiths years back, yes, those were paid 'reviews' which likely included travel to Spain, South Africa, or wherever to say nice things about their new cars.

Then the BYD points raised - are we surprised?

Last time I checked an M2 wasn't an EV.

Back on topic :)

damn I hate it when I miss the good stuff!.
one of the things I love about EVs is the ability to remote cool the. I made good use of that today. arguably of all the features of new cars that is one of the most useful imo

Highly recommend if your with Octopus getting the Home Mini. It connects your smart meters to Octopus by WiFi and updates the electric reading every minute for really accurate readings. Gives a nice graph on the app too….. :-)

Yep so glad my car does that it’s been so nice getting into an ice cold car the last few days……
