EV general discussion

like I did at the weekend a trip to see friend 60 miles/1hr, then a 100miles/2hr onwards to a 2nd destination with no destination charging possible,
then returning, both legs; overall a comfortable 5 hour drive, maybe a 1/3tank, but with an ev you'd have to stop.
... in the future if everyone has a home/destinastion charger you can purloin, such trips would be easier.
I drove from Leeds to Anglesey, 180 miles each way. Stopped at Chester services for a bacon sandwich and drink for the family for 30 minutes (would always do this in my ICE car), popped the car on charge there. Got to Anglesey, drove round there for 4 days without charging (approx. 100 miles). Set off home, stopped at Menai Tesla station and walked the dogs with the family for 30 minutes whilst it charged (would have been a dog walk at holiday location before setting off with ICE car), then off home, stopped at Chester again but more for food/comfort break (as i would have done with my ICE car), popped it on charge there for 20-30 minutes even though i had enough charge to get me home with % to spare. Then home. There was absolutely no difference in time taken in my EV than time taken when i had an ICE car when we did the same holiday for the last 10+ years.

ID3 is all fixed up in under a week and I've just thrown the C3 back at enterprise hopefully never to drive one again :D

There's an AWD LR model Y for 23k with 26k miles, from Mar 2022. Anything I need to look out for when viewing? Should it have had its brake service done?
I went to look at this today. Wow they drive nice. Nearly bought it but there were a couple of niggles that they wouldn't haggle on. I left them an offer of 22.5k based on:

- there's a nick on the passenger side dashboard like someone swiped with a flathead screwdriver up both the wood effect and black plastic bit.
- knocking from back left corner, underneath it looked tidy but a little rust in places. To be fair they said they'd book that in for a mechanic to take a look at and fix gratis.
- whoever had valeted it got wax absolutely everywhere, it was even smeared under the charging cover and the back seats were icky, as well as the trim covering the glove compartment. They said they'd do another valet and had "just changed valets because they'd had some issues".
- bit of surface rust on disks but not sure how big a deal a bit of rust is, my current car is 12 years old and you can imagine the state of it for rust. No pitting or scoring.

Was 23k too much based on current market like I thought or was I too much not a shop there? Be keen to know what more car-minded folk would have done. For now I've left them my offer and will just keep an eye out for another decent deal.

I think I'd be looking at something with a free months of Tesla warranty remaining, so you aren't relying on the dealer.

Sounds like the suspension components needs some TLC as usual on the age and model.

Ideal thanks will be interesting to see how it plays out, it's a new order so the bar is factory fit. I actually found the rated nose weight confusing in the manual initially (albeit it would always be more than sufficient for what I'm pulling) when reading up.
They'll be too weights, one for an accessory carrier and one for a trailer.

The accessory carrier weight is lower at 55kg where as a trailer you can go up to 100kg. 100kg is pretty normal for a trailer nose weight.

I was supposed to be getting my iX3 tomorrow, but received a call at 4 p.m. yesterday telling me there was a safety recall and BMW couldn't legally hand it over.

No idea how long it'll be. BMW chat said:

I can see your BMW is subject to a recall which is to 'Check Cell Supervision Circuit, replace if necessary'. Due to this being a safety recall on a new car order, it is correct that your BMW cannot be released until the work has been completed.

So an actual hardware issue, but luckily in the Gen 6 cars they made it easier to repair that sort of thing. On an iX, i5 etc (Gen 5) they would have to break the battery seal and sort it that way!

I thought I might be getting a lemon, but it has affected a bunch of cars.

Picked up the EV6 GT today holy hell it’s good. The acceleration is phenomenal, GT mode just wants to rip the tyres off won’t be using that often. Really impressed well apart from the insurance cost but hey ho…

Who says the GT is bad on range. Over 7mkwh (definitely not down hill at full regen. Lol)

We get a new ID3 in 6-8 weeks...can't wait.
Wife got it with salary sacrifice for a good deal, however I'm tempted to get my own now to replace my Ibiza.

Very nice and roomy inside

An Ibiza is what mine replaced as well, it's definitely a nice little upgrade.

So what made you come around to getting an EV then from never, to looking likely to have two? It's always interesting to hear what has changed for people and why that has moved their choice from a definite no to a resounding yes.
