Even more Star Wars films coming.

Last i heard that's not going to happen, the word that was doing the rounds were the changes Lucas made to the original negative was permanent when he first did the special editions. Not even sure if would be possible to undo it.
Truth is nobody really knows what's possible so we will all have to wait and hope!

have a look for the despecialized versions - they are excellent.

Star Wars is dead for me..... The last Jedi was the last jedi in the coffin. (steam pile of turd it was)
this very much!

“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

She does realize it was not their original work right? the deep story and complex characters are by GRRM

I worry about the mooted Kenobi film, we see him arrive on Tatooine at the end of RoS and we see him leave in ANH but I had always assumed he'd been on a vigil of some kind looking out for Luke. Darth Vader seemingly is unaware the Kenobi still lives during ANH. So any story involving Kenobi has to be relatively low key or it risks incompatible the plot of existing movies surely?

I have a bad feeling about this.

Yeh, I don't know how they will do this. Obi seems a bit of a strange one to pick.

PS, chuckled at the Han quote

So why do these need to be "star wars" films? It's just become a brand to sell drivel to and rake in the cash it seems. But then did anyone expect anything else back when it was sold to Disney the McDonalds of film making.

The original negative was badly faded, to the point that Vader was green. It needed digital restoration even before any additional work was done. Sadly, the original scan was only in 1080p in 10bit RGB, so that's pretty useless now. Given the condition of the negative 25ish years ago, the original negative is effectively destroyed by now.

What they really need to scan are the separation masters taken from the original negative before it is used to create interpositives from which film is printed, as they still exist. The printing method is inert so doesn't degrade (although the film stock itself may) and are generally used for long term storage and preservation. 8K scan of those would provide an excellent basis for the original release.

That said, Fox have the rights for Episode IV into perpetuity, and Episode I, II, III, V and VI until 2020 (iirc) so it'd have to wait until the Fox rights sale has gone through at least.

Christ we waited 16 years for Episode 1, then 11 years for Episode VII, with what Disney are doing to it i want it to **** off for another 15 years and hopefully Lucas takes it back, all is forgiven George, even after Clones!!!

As as previously die-hard fan, I have to admit that I've given up on Star Wars. The Last Jedi was such a disappointment and, to be honest, the beautiful imagery just doesn't make up for weak characters, terrible plots and sledgehammer PC messaging. I've surprised myself but I have reached the conclusion that I'm out.

The more the better, but in all honestly I think one movie per year is a bit too much and too often. The original trilogy was way ahead of it's time and the first 6 films have been excellent. It's just a shame that I don't find the new movies a good watch anymore. I will still watch all of the Star Wars movies but my hope is just to be disappointed each time.

I like this, just like rogue one a star wars film doesn't need lightersabers etc so i hope they do something like that again (the space battle was intense)

Also theres so much e.u they can bring into canon, or go back to the old republic. or history of snoke and his master etc.

Or they could do movies on the aftermath novels
