Evolution DSL - Anyone using them?

I'm away from my connection this weekend, so I can't test it much :(

I'll be sure to try a few pings as soon as I get back. I'm still within in the initital 10 days of the line activation, so the speed will fluctuate. By this Friday it should be locked to a certain speed.

But as i've said, so far it looks quite hopeful! :D

i didnt think anything got locked down? i thought it was just BT testing the line so they can get limits for when you report a fault.

will be at uni tomorrow so can do some more testing then. i dont really play online games but if you give the the addresses you want pinging ill post the results.

so if i get a stable connection then improve my wires i will get a faster connection ?
Apparently all the BT kit does is set a target SNR and decide whether interleaving should be on or off. It doesn't limit sync rates.

Turned off router overnight and connected with Evolution this morning! 2Mbit cap already lifted, downloading at 4Mbit but router is sync'd at 8128/448 . I was told by the line checker that i woul get 4- 4.5 Mbit anyway so i am chuffed :)

Why ???

Hi,

I am looking to change providers soon.

Why the sudden rush to Evolution? Which other providers did you all consider before joining?

Evolution do seem to offer a good deal but I am also looking at the more established providers such as Eclipse and Nildram. These two seem to offer much better deals then most of the other providers.

Should I just stop researching and jump on the Evolution bandwagon? I just want a simple, reliable and stable service.

Thanks,

'To see what it's like' is is the answer, I think. They're are the only service that's claims to have no limits, no shaping, no throttling AND at an incredibly cheap price.

With a 1 month contract, there's not a lot to lose. It might (and probably will) all go pearshaped inside 12 months... but you win some, you lose some.

Ok it's been 1 week since the line was activated!
For the hours of the early evening I've been averaging around 400kb/s on Giganews. But since 9pm the average speed has been rising all the time, now at 550kb/s.

Not the full 8Mbit/s, but more than enough for me! :D

I imagine in the early hours speeds will hit 800k/s odd again.

Pings, pings, pings .... :p

We've establised it's fast but how quick is it for pinging and gaming?

There is a site which can test your line suitability for games but I can't remember the address. Therefore you'll need to fire up some games and see what sort of pings your getting.

Thanks in advance,

BeatMaster :D

Everyone still happy with evolution? Im going to migrate from pipex to them. I will be going for the 2-8meg £25 a month number, seems to good to be true. :)

i was migrated yest from F2S and everything went smoothly. I would just advise to wait the 10 day period before you really judge; some people were complaining about speeds on adslguide after being on the service for 12 hours! So far, so good, speeds have been varying but its been really stable so far.

Yeah I was reading that on adsl guide forums. Have to agree with you about impatients, anyway I have requested my mac code of pipex and am now waiting for it. As soon as I get it I'm joining Evoloution.. :D
