Evolution DSL - Anyone using them?

Just got my mac code from Pipex, Im now ordering the Max from evolution.. yeeeah. ;)
Jimbo, when's the best time to request you MAC? At the start of the last month of your contract seems like the obvious choice, gives the ISP plenty of time to respond

I don't really want to be billed twice for the same month - and I don't want to give Pipex anymore money than I have too :D

As I understand it, once you've got your MAC code your home and dry aren't you - because you don't have to use it straight away do you? Or do they have an expiry time?

SW.

The mac code has a 30 day expiry date on it..

Im just gonna cancel the direct debit to them and thats the end of that for me. He did say something about if you get billed just ring for a refund. Or you could read this from adsl guide..

http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showthr...=1638306&page=0&view=expanded&sb=5&o=0&fpart=

Not sure how valid this still is though, I just want the hell out. :p

So whats the best a single or dynamic ip? Im not sure wich one?

Does dynamic mean my ip address changes from time to time? wont that cause problems for my router?

Hmmm....this is going from bad to worse now....connection is just dropping now (3 times in the last hour).....

Something tells me my association with Evo isnt going to last long.......

the connection dropping doesnt have anything to do with Evolution.

All i know is 24hrs ago i was on a stable Pipex 1mbit connection, the only thing thats changed is my ISP....

Oh and its know dropped for the 8th time in the last 20mins, and i dont know if the connection will last long enough to post this....

And my download speeds seemed to have flatlined at about 40k a sec...

the connection dropping is because your now on an ADSL MAX line and it will keep disconecting to find the max stable speed.

i admit it is particually slow atm, but its not always like this (for now)

So you have the same thing with being disconected..how long does it go on for?

the only thing thats changed is my ISP....

And your sync rate, and your SNR margin....

Your ISP isn't making you lose synch. What's making you lose synch is because you're pushing your line harder to get more speed out of it.
Reduced throughput could be a result of packetloss due to that as well.

Stats would be useful - attenuation, SNR margin, current sync rate.

i didnt have the same problem as i have a very good line. im synced at 8128kbps with a SNR of about 10db. so it doesnt drop out. its only when your line isnt as good that the SNR gets too low and it cuts out, causing it to resync at a lower speed.

Well thats no good to me then is it?....theres nothing i can do to improve my line...looking like DSL MAX is going to be crap for me.....and i will probably need to go back to a regular slower connection.....thought it was too good to be true.....

lucky its only a 1mth contract.....

have you read any of the numerous ADSL MAX threads about?

you line will improve, if you keep getting disconected the system will notice something is wrong and start syncing at lower speeds. I think it actually aims to get a specific SNR, if you are loosing sync a lot it will increase this target SNR and/or add interleaving to your line. this process takes up to 10 days

a friend of mine (csmager) would get disconected often like you, but after a few days things start to improve. now his line has been up for over 40hrs i think.

If you're getting a lot of disconnects, the system should (in theory) up the target SNR margin, and/or switch interleaving on.

End of the day, if you wanted stability, a system which depends on pushing your line at close to it's hardest wasn't the best of choices.

So do you think that the only way i will get a usable connection is to go back to a regular 1mbit service?.

How long should i give the MAX service before giving it up as a lost cause?.

Oh...ping times are now in the 1000's for games...sigh...
