Yes its just around polling stations within a radius of 250m. It's great for me because my polling station is the community village hall which is 10m from my front door, so we get left alone all day on elections.

Precisely. So if you do shift work, and have time to be at home during the day, perhaps he does the same, and has time to put the effort into canvassing for his preferred political party during the day.
The difference is, he is using his spare time to go to the effort of getting up and engaging with the political process by canvassing, rather than just making pathetic judgements based on someone's attire.
