DUP sees 'very good' chance of Tory deal after winning big concessions

https://www.theguardian.com/politic...ce-of-tory-deal-after-winning-big-concessions

So I'm confused if we get the detail about the deal? Someone said here the other day that the detail of the deal will be in the queen's speech but it wasn't (and obviously can't be as the deal is not confirmed)

So firstly.... How can the Tories do a queen speech when they don't know if more concessions will need to be made on their manifesto to get a DUP deal.

Secondly... How can brexit negotiations have begun when we don't have a government yet.

Third... If the nitty gritty detail isn't clearly given until a later date... How can MPs vote to pass the queen speech. Is it illegal to withhold detail of the deal? If not... How can anyone be sure that the DUP are getting stupid amounts of money.

On the second point, we do have a government, just because they don't have a majority doesn't mean the Tories aren't the ruling party at this moment in time. What we don't have is an agreement between the DUP and the Conservatives that would allow them to manufacture a majority when it comes to voting in the commons. Theoretically they don't need a deal to be a government, but if they don't get it they might as well be a selection of impotent, gout-riddled paperweights taking up seats in the commons.

Ok. I suppose it makes sense. My main interest is my 3rd point. Can the Tories shy over any detail with the detail with the DUP. Is it legal to do that. Id suspect if they could get away with it.... They'd keep any deal on the down low if it involved lots of money.

Tricky question. This is all speculation as I don't know about the legal specifics but from a moral point of view there is an expectation that politics in this Country, where possible, be conducted with a level of transparency, in particular when cash is involved. I would imagine the more they try to keep the specifics of the deal under wraps (if that's a possibility) the more flack they will catch from opposition MPs, and potentially those within their own party who aren't happy with this marriage of convenience. It's going to be a rough few months for May as her government is going to be propped up by a very unpopular coalition of sorts and everyone and their Mother's will be out for her blood, particularly now she's lost the support of the press.

So in response to your question, I have no idea:D

There's no legal reason why they would need to make the term of a DUP known, no.

Indeed, but there are quite possibly some very big political reasons as to why the DUP will want to make details available. E.g. Look at how much more investment we got for the people of Northern Ireland.

when will they form a coalition?

They're not. The Tory's are buying their support in critical votes with public money.

There is no attempt to form a government together.

Personally I feel every region to should form a sub party and blackmail a bit of extra cash out of ministers. Cambridgeshire Conservatives have 5 sitting MPs, and about half the population of NI. Maybe we could get an extra billion or so.

Lol... Now that you put it in that way... It seems if you want more money for you area all your no should do is say you can have my vote for xxxxx amount of money.

Normally the Tories are quite "conservative" but when they are desperate for power they seem to throw money anywhere and everywhere. Each MP should sell their vote to the Tory big wigs lol

It was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but it doesn't make it any less true.

If the government can't form a majority, they should either run as a minority government... or form a formal coalition.

The Tory's are essentially trying to avoid compromise by buying in extra support with cash rather that policy compromise. It's fundamentally undemocratic IMO.

I find it hilarious though, after the DUP wasted £1b with their scummy scammy RHI scheme, they have the ******* cheek to ask for more?

Aswell as all the allegations/insinuations of the UK government supporting the DUP through payouts which "randomly" lands on the doorstep of certain "groups" of totally non-beligerrent people **COUGH**UDA**COUGH**

If this money genuinely benefits all areas of NI, then fine, but we all know it will be landing in the pockets of DUP heavy areas. Conservative and Unionist Party my ****.
