That billion could have gone to the NHS, Police or Schools or all three, but no, it goes to Northern Ireland to pay off 10 DUP MP's.

Got a to love Conservatives, clinging onto power no matter the cost to the country.

The NHS gets through more than £1bn every week :| there are a lot of schools crying out for that money though.

Given the MP's aren't going to pocket the money - its just a different part of the UK getting some benefit out of it all, I'm sure Scotland and Wales have done the same thing over the years

Scotland? Maybe with the SNP, I could see that happening, probably quite soon actually.

Wales? Nope, Plaid Cymru only have 4 seats.

Maybe, but it still doesn't make it right.

Right that you represent a sizable chunk of the population and you want to use that to ask for funds to make the lives of those under you better (which would lead to you getting re-elected)

Sounds like Politics 101 to me

Hopefully another election in 6 months and the DUP don't see a penny of this.

Comrade Corbyn seems to want that and was even allegedly predicting that (though perhaps partly down to excitement/adrenalin after getting off the stage at glasto)

I'd wager the Maybot on the other hand (along with various potential challengers in her party) will want to finish Brexit, which is frankly going to be very divisive whatever deal they get

There was some interesting debate earlier in the thread about Corbyn's proposed higher minimum wage. I won't paraphrase the two sides, because they're largely the same each time the issue is raised.

However, in that context I found this article interesting, from a sharp increase in minimum wage in Seattle. Pay has indeed increased, but remuneration has gone down as labour hours have been reduced i.e. demand has dropped

she won't have any choice if she can't pass anything, brexit or not..

that is going to be potentially interesting if some Conservatives rebel - but she's taken some of the more controversial stuff out of the Queen's speech and I don't think she'll have a situation where she can't pass 'anything', will be interesting to see if any Conservatives stand up against the authoritarian/internet censorship stuff though.

I would hope so, she spoke as if the recent attacks could have been prevented in today's announcement with internet snooping. We all know she's lying, but whether anyone has any backbone to tell her she is without being shouted down remains to be seen.

Probably won't be long until the next round of cuts for the disabled are announced. The money has got to come from somewhere and it sure as hell won't be from corp tax or tax loopholes.

I believe she's signed her own (Political) death warrant with this, and her parties with it. Its too easily weaponised by opposition parties and doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Other devolved parliaments are already making noises and its ultimately the tax paying population that will fund this.

They've shown they are utterly clueless (as expected) at negotiations, having paid 1.5 billion for nothing.
