F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

I think McLaren will get some performance from somewhere, they always do..... and I hate em for that ;)

And it's kinda good to see Button post semi decent timings, I mean why bother racing at such a low level over such a long time...... is beyond me!

Anyone else noticed that the translated timings calls F.Massa "F. Bulk"? :D

Kernel means pit, i.e they are in the pits and not on track.

I have read it as Rosberg pitted after 15 laps yeah?

The current data shows RB under 2 tenths down on the Williams with 20 laps more fuel in if Im reading it right

Have we seen times for BrawnGP over quali distances - all I have seen are race lengths? Wondering if they are as fast over short ones

With regards to the title race though, I still feel that Button has next to no chance of winning the title as he just isnt good enough.

I seem to recall you stating that there was no chance the car was going to be any good too :D

No wonder Brawn was happy to stump his own money in the end! he must have known he had a very good package this year.

Can't argue with facts, beating last years fastest time is almost unbelievable.

Could it be that the Mclaren is suffering from lack of down force at high speed:

Consistent Slow lap times
Reports kov of lifting off on straight
Weird dye to see the airflow around the sidepod
Hamilton spinning at turn3 which is a 235km/h corner

I'm beginning to think its the case.

edit: buttons now 16/1 on w'hill :( should have done it yesterday

Out of interest, why are they so much faster than last year? Im guessing its because of the slicks, barca has a good few slow corners where aero doesnt really play a part, and its a lot more sticky through those?

Hey sunama, ready to modify your position on Button's talent yet?

;)

Let's not jump the gun :D We should wait and see what happens in Australia before we start counting our chickens :D

If MacMerc are going to be carp this year then I may have to temporarily convert to a Brawn/Button fan :p

So excited! To see Ferrari beaten by Brawn GP would be better than to see them beaten by anyone else.. even rivalling beating them on the penultimate corner of the last race.

I'm not saying he'll definitely win the title this year, I'm just saying that the Honda has not shown him in the best light for the last two years and it's about time sunama recognised that small fact :)

Button & Alonso - 2004

Good times. The year before the Renault and Alonso started winning and Button ended up in a lemon of a car.

2 seasons off pace is forgiveable when in a new to the grid team. The 3rd season he must have known the team would be able to develop something great to commit to them for this year and beyond. I really hope he proves Sunama wrong. We've all seen a glimpse of race winning qualities and some great quali laps. His firm loyalty to a team he believes in is important imo. Just a shame the team hasn't been able to deliver.

Hopes are high, and this is what's great about this sport. This year we have a field of drivers we can all call worthy of a title and these new regs seem to be helping in giving them all a chance to obtain it. I hope I'm not disappointed this year.

EDIT: Alonsos R29 has had a failure, dumping oil on the circuit. The big teams seem to be having reliability issues this testing season. McLaren aren't clocking many miles either, worrying for the World Champion I imagine.
