F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

Only 4 teams testing next week at Jerez

Ross Brawn said:
“We have three further days of testing in Jerez next week to complete our preparations for the first race and I look forward to seeing how the car progresses from here.”

Brawn will be joined at Jerez by McLaren, Renault and Williams, while the other six teams have now drawn a line under their winter testing action ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on March 29.

Another interesting day of testing, the BrawnGP car seems pretty damn good which is pretty good, I'm guessing there must have been some thinking that it was going to be a goodish car if he provided part of the buyout money.

Obviously the engine in it isnt doing too badly, so possible mclaren bum car for the year. But will certainly be an interesting first race. Need to get myself a tv to take into work for the day though I think.

You lot are all bloomin' Brawn GP fanboys, innit...

Well, apparently I am, so I think it's only fair that you lot are as well ;).

'sept deko obviously. And frakker, who allegedly isn't "completely naive".

quick question slightly off topic

do any current F1 cars have carbon fibre gearboxes? (i'm doing research ;) )

Carbon fibre casing?
Carbon fibre internals?

Both have been used to some degree - generally it's not only carbon though. Especially with the internal components, but with the 4 race gearboxes may not be at the moment.

Also, we dont know how he will cope against Barrichello, if Barrichello starts outscoring and outperforming Button, regularly. Remember, Barrichello outscored and outqualified Button last year and is quite capable of leading the championship in the best car.

Last year was a bit of a freak though as RB gained majority of his points in a 2nd place at Silverstone - otherwise I think they where within a point of each other

Honda must be feeling pretty stupid for selling up right now! Crying into their sake I reckon :D

Even though Honda have the option to buy the team back it will be very embarrasing that a new engine goes in a car of theirs and wins.

As I said - over the course of a season my money would still be with one of the Ferrari drivers (hopefully Massa just to really irritate dannyjo22),

It won't irritate me, it makes me laugh and the standard required to be a champion when such an erratic monkey can win when placed in the best car.

Yet people will spend so much time arguing over Driver A to Z being ready or able to win a title when the monkey almost walked away with it last year despite never showing any real consistency or ability prior to sitting in the best team/car on the grid and finding a manager with the right surname.

If massa is ahead of kimi after 4 races kimi should walk and stop being a placeholder. His enthuisiam must have died completely.

He was on the podium three times in '97. It's a helluva step to go from that to winning a title!

The difference with Mika is it was clear by the 2/3rds distance the Mclaren was the class of the field without the reliability. Mika should have won 4 races in 97 atleast.

Silverstone
Nurburg
Japan
Jerez

The last two they more than had the pace for but kept out of the fight.

As for Macca seeming to have gone backwards this year, well it wouldn't surprise me. They hadn't won a title for 10 years and even then when they built a mega car they could only maintain the momentum for 2 years.

For poo's and giggles

Anyone want to have a stab at constructors as you see it right now?

2. Toyota
3. BMW
4. Brawn GP
5. Renault
6. Maclaren
7. Red Bull
8. Williams
9. Toro Rosso
10. Force India

I reckon Brawn are currently running underweight to attract sponsors and will be midfield at best come Australia plus over the course of the season McLaren won't struggle as much as is being made out. 4-8 could really be in any order to be honest they're all so close and there are so many unknowns.

Agreed.

Raw pace is scary on the BGP's though. On long stints (20laps+) they are still pilling as fast/faster times than the rest, which is a better indication than the (admittedly good)glory runs.
