F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

A bigger image of the Williams in 2009 Aero, I thought those winglets on the front of the sidepods (I can't remember the name of them, the things Honda love) where supposed to be banned?

By the way, that front wing looks awesome.

*edit*

Nvm me, it appears its just the 2008 car with 2009 front and rear wing.

Another perspective.

I'm with most of the others on here, awesome front-wing, "ugh" rear wing, just looks all out of proportion. I'm sure the new look will grow on me though.

I quite like the rear wing, reminds me of the 1980s:

Is it possible that Williams havent yet built their first version of the 2009 monocoque?

I was thinking that its a little too early to already have a new fully built 2009 spec car, in November 2008.

Not when you consider Williams stopped developing the 2008 back in July/August if what i have been told is true.

Williams and Honda for the surprise front running teams in 2009 then? ;)

If that happens, I shall buy a hat and eat it. :p

A lot of people believe that a driver is not important in getting the most out of a car, but I think that the last few years have proved that unless you have a great driver piloting your F1 car, you cant expect good results.

Neither Honda nor Williams have top class drivers, hence, even if they produce the fastest cars (which I highly doubt), I dont believe they get regular podiums or win races, though they may qualify in the top 6.

Right, and what year and what driver to get the first win?

I take it, it was 1989 when they had Prost/Mansell? I cant imagine any other drivers coming up with a win for Ferrari.

Come on, dont make me have to look it up.

They had Berger and Mansell in 1989.

And Mansell won in the cars debut race in 1989, Berger failed to finish the 1st 11 races of the 89' season. But he did crash heavily at the San Marino GP and therefore missed the Monaco GP.

Mansell won in it on its' debut at the 1989 Brazillian Grand Prix at Rio (notice not Sao Paolo)

I like the look of the new wings, very 90's looking, only thing i can see being a problem , is the width of that front wing, Cutting in close behind someone or getting close and trying to avoid, they are more likley to clip it and either lose a part, or slice the tyre of the car infront.

OK smarty pants. Why was the major risk of running the 640 monocoque and the semi auto gearbox together?

I'm not sure, so I'm going to guess.

With the new fragile semi-auto gearbox and a stiff(?) 640 chassis the vibrations from the chassis caused the gearbox to break a lot? Hence why there was a lot of retirements.

Had to think about that 1 lol, enlighten me if I got it wrong.
