F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

It's a good mix for us this year, Newey designed car from the ground up, Vettel and the FIA allowance of the performance issues to be addressed in the Renault Engine.

Looking promising.

Peugeot would probably be in trouble with the government if they decided to start an F1 team. They are getting subsidies to help them pay for new research and cars I believe.

Anyone know if Prodrive have anything on for next year now Subaru are out of the WRC. Do they still have a LeMans or Endurance programme? What is the likelihood of them finding money to go to F1?

They're still running the Aston GT1 programme.

F1 is unlikely, they were granted the extra entry for 2008 but pulled out when it became unlikely that customer cars would be allowed. Their business plan was built around running a customer McLaren, they would have had no manufacturing capability whatsoever.

So, the question is, do you think the Honda car will be running in any form at all in 2009?

I really hope so, I really want to believe that someone will take the opportunity to get into F1 in a debt free team. (Honda has taken on all the debts, has it not?)

The only thing holding most people back would probably be the cost of paring down the staff and also maintaining the amazing facilities they have.

Seb looks so small compared to DC and Webber

This should allow Newey to design a really nice tight moncoque. Newey loves doing that as it usually brings some extra speed. Obviously, Webber will now be the limiting factor.

Keep in mind though, Vettel is still very young and will fill out as he gets older.

The bloke was a **** tbh. Eventually he got his. I don't want him back.

What was so bad about him?

They have scraped the Lola Aston Martin LMP1 and will be replacing it with an Aston Martin Aston Martin LMP1 for 2009, in partnership with Charouz Racing System and Gulf.

Oh god.... are they really that desperate?

Yes, they could simply be absolutely desperate for cash.

Alternatively, it might have something to do with the fact that Fiat have an agreement with Tata regarding car production and the two companies want the Tata brand to get a bit of exposure. Or is that crazy talk?

What was so bad about him?

He did his level best to get Villeneuve off the books at BAR because he didn't want pollock anywhere near the team even as villeneuve's manager.

He backed Jenson from day one.

Slowly but surely he edged him out. He had Jenson take a much much smaller wage but put him on a perfomance clause where he got paid extra by point.

Jenson scored a boat load of points and his bonus never got paid. Richards refused to pay up. Jenson's manager contacted pitpass who ran the story. Jenson signed to williams. Honda removed Richards. Jenson stayed.

Somehow or another the FIA decided for the first time ever they would make sure a car was totally empty of fuel and then weigh it, even though the BAR was the only car emptied that weekend by that method. Other cars where checked but not to the same standard. How strange. Where the hell did they get that information.

There's a reason why Button wouldn't want richards anywhere near buying the team. Richards was a great ally in getting rid of Villenueve, but didn't hesitate in then turning on button. I doubt richards would do him any favours as a new owner.

The man is a snake, Benetton didn't keep him around for long, luckily.
