F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

well bernie has finally confirmed what we all knew anyway, ferrari get a nice big cash payoff and some special favours.

in reply to luca's recent comments-

''The only thing he has not mentioned is the extra money Ferrari get above all the other teams and all the extra things Ferrari have had for years - the 'general help' they are considered to have had in Formula One''

''They get about $80 million (about £54 million) more. When they win the Constructors' Championship, which they did this year, they got $80 million more than if McLaren had won it''

''That's where the $80 million comes in. We 'bought' Ferrari. We 'bought' Ferrari's loyalty. Our deal with Ferrari was that we 'bought' them''

But even before that they were getting more money. Paul Stoddart said that the most painful cheque he had to write each year was the one to Ferrari. The other teams apparently had to pay Ferrari because it was ‘in recognition of their historical contribution to the sport’

Bloody ridiculous!

Yeah I don't know why the times are reporting that as new. I have known about those figures for years. I remember the teams, Minardi in particular moaning about the amount.

Although I think it's ridiculous I'm not sure F1 would last long without them.

BMW and Mercedes must really regret pumping in so much money to a team now. I wonder if they would look to selling their shares back again? Or even ask Sauber if he has some spare change :)

If they had all just stayed engine suppliers none of this crap would be happening. Ego's of big car manufacturers thinking they could run an F1 team.

Honda spent 45 gazillion and still didn't do any better than Mugen Honda in a Jordan.

Happened in 2003 didnt it? The Ferrari deal.

Sometimes I really like Bernie, don't always agree with him but he consistantly says what he thinks with no sugar coating.

Especially liked the "We 'bought' Ferrari, We 'bought' Ferrari's loyalty." bet luca choked over his breakfast as he read that one :)

But $80 million more just for being Ferrari, that's just silly, but I guess it served Bernies aims perfectly, stopped the breakaway series, and then when Ferrari get too big for their boots he can come out like this and everyone knows what Ferrari's price was.

How long will F1 survive without Ferrari in it? How long can WRC now survive withhout Subaru with just Ford + Citroen?
Ferrari is one of the main attractions of F1 I'd say.

Depends which market they are targeting I expect. I don't think the FIA looks at Europe with any priority. Middle East and Asia?

For what F1?
F1s largest audience is in Europe

Not sure where WRC has the main audience, but wouldn't surprise me if it's Europe as well.

As a geographic area we are all far "better off" than the Middle East / Asia, meaning we are better able to afford to buy tickets to the events, merchandise and so on.

But and its a huge but

Middle Eastern countries are prepared to pay BE a lot more money to host F1, your argument for the ability of the European audience being able to afford to buy merchandise does not concern Ecclestone one bit.

Yes, but I don't see BE being in charge for much longer, I think the idea of a breakaway F1 is still possible.

So, as well as no on site parking at Donnington, they want to stop planes from East Midlands Airport overflying the circuit at the race weekend?

They also want to charter a lot of planes to bring people to the circuit. So now they don't even want to do park and ride, it's drive to the airport, park, get in a plane, fly to East Midlands, get on a bus and go to the circuit... with your camping gear....

Ummmm. Ok...

well they wont stop the over flights, as it depends on the wind direction as to whether the planes takeoff over kegworth or over donington park

Ferrari, Bernie Ecclestone and prostitution . . .

The only thing [di Montezemolo] has not mentioned is the extra money Ferrari get above all the other teams and all the extra things Ferrari have had for years – the ‘general help’ they are considered to have had in Formula 1,” Ecclestone told The Times newspaper.

“They know exactly what they get, they are not that stupid – although they are not that bright, either. “They get about $80 million [£54 million] more. “When they win the constructors’ championship, which they did this year, they got $80 million more than if McLaren had won it.

“They were the only team that broke ranks with the other manufacturers. Why did they break ranks? That’s where the $80 million comes in.

“We ‘bought’ Ferrari. We ‘bought’ Ferrari’s loyalty.

Oh joy.....this is perfect. Every single one of you hooting buggers who thinks that because the FIA and stewards have penalised McLaren then they MUST be doing it solely to help Ferrari will feel completely vindicated.

Just brilliant. I can't wait to hear what sunama has to say....methinks it's time to get while the going's good.

Erm. There isnt much to say on the subject of Ferrari and their connections with the FIA. Its there, in black and white, for all to read.

The FIA and Ferrari are certainly in cahoots with eachother.

I'm just looking forward to seeing Ferrari, McLaren and Renault doing battle with eachother. I can already see Alonso and Hamilton having a ding-dong battle. Of course, the FIA will do what they can to assist Ferrari to win a title or 2. Roll on 2009.
