F1 2012 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

I have it on very good authority Di Resta will be at FI next year. Almost as good as confirmed really. Still not sure about the other seat, probably Hulkenberg. If mallya is serious about moving up the grid and being the '4th' team then he needs good drivers, not just pay ones.

di resta is a pay driver FI get 10million less on there engines bill from merc

Updated OP :)
Di Resta will surely stay at FI for one more season at least. If he does well again, I can see him being snapped up as a number two somewhere perhaps to replace Massa (if Kubica fails to show up), maybe Mercedes will want him?

Thought Di Resta was waiting for Schumacher to retire (again) and take his seat at Mercedes.

Is the Kubica rumour of a Ferrari seat because he may never be fully fit but could probably cope being a No.2 driver?

I think it has been being touted for a while now, I think the rumours were around pre-injury for Kubica. Couple of year ago at least. If anything the injury has pro-longed Massa's career (certainly at Ferrari) by a couple of years.

He would have been at Ferrari for next season if not for the accident, he is great friends with Alonso so would have been interesting :) and also shows Ferrari are not content to sit with Alonso thrashing Massa and needed a challenge, might still happen I guess depending on his recovery.

Alonso/Ferrari rumours began when he was at Minardi, so they eventually got there :D

That sounds like very dangerous times for Williams (and unlike some posts following the article -I would think it IS up to Williams to know where its sponsorship monies come from ; ie just as much as any team would not want "criminal " money sponsoring them, for the same reason I cant see how they would want "public" money , in one sense mis-appropriated, for the same reason).

I know its not as easy these days to get major sponsors for teams - but whether its legal or not, surely its bad press for Williams in this country even if its nothing more.

(I know I would be ****** if an F1 team was being sponsored by UK public money, how ever much I love the sport)

Read on ITV sport that Maldonado is driving for Williams again, as already mentioned.

Why don't one of the big teams just pay Williams to let one of there young drivers to drive for them? Would they be worried that information will be passed on?

Hmm, despite it being apparently against the law not to reveal the details of the deal, he doesn't actually clarify his position with any of said laws. Instead he seems to be attempting to bully Williams into telling all. Regardless of whether there are any issues here, I'd tell him to do one if I got a letter like that too. He sounds like a random member of the public trying to get information "just because".

disapointing hopefully williams will just get out next year..

So Williams are having a bad run, and now they should leave the sport!? That's a bit extreme!

Suprised about the rumor of Kubica and Ferrari, nobody knows if he will ever come back yet alone if he will be as good as he was.

I'm on the fence regarding Rubens, a really nice guy during interviews etc, and great to see some of the old guys still in F1... but his time has passed, yet I don't want him to go.

Then again if it was down to me we'd have a lot of the ex F1 drivers still in F1 :D

I would like to see someone give Senna a chance as well. He's shown a lot of promise at Lotus even though he's had some fairly poor results as well. I think he could be very good, given the chance. That said, so could a lot of young drivers.

As much as I like Barrichello, I think he should have bowed out gracefully, but I understand why he wouldn't want to. It's probably the best job in the world! Trulli on the other hand, I don't see his value in F1 any more. He's never appeared to have made much impact in Caterham and seems to have had issues with power steering forever. I'm sure his experience was valuable at some point, but now Caterham are looking to move upwards (and looking more and more like they will be firmly midfield next season) it's time they got someone fresher and faster in. It's not like Heikki has little experience, he has plenty to keep them going. They should give a new young driver a chance!

is there really any f1 champions that needed a chance apart from button and thats a bit of a one off..

i dont see why these young uns like senna need a chance tbh if anyone needed a chance it was that guy who got pole at brazil last year but williams decided they want pay drivers instead of which senna is one

Hulkenburgs pole was not skill, it was fluke with the tyres. Ok, maybe not a fluke, but a bit of a calculated gamble by the team at least.

I don't quite understand what your getting at with Button though?

As for Senna, I would love for him not to get a drive at Lotus just to stop the flurry of idiots banging on about "Senna in a Black and Gold Lotus" that will inevitably happen. Put him in another team by all means, he's done better than some of the other young guys who are on the grid.

The fact that the current GP2 Champion (Grojean) doesn't look like he will be able to find a seat in F1 next year pretty much sums up the situation with young drivers in F1 at the moment.
