F1 2013 Testing: Week 3 Barcelona

Ted is awesome, quite frankly. I do hope sky pick up on the good feedback they're obviously getting from these testing notebooks and let him geek out a get a bit "techy" during race weekends. Gotta love the development cubicle :)

Ted's notebook started last season after the races, usually at the end of the F1 forum. Was certainly available online then too.

But didn't have its own TV slot like it has at these tests.

commentators have xray vision and know more than the teams themselves do it really is amazing.
clark kent is that you?

fuel adjusted is the biggest bunch of BS I ever heard.

only the teams know how much fuel they had in the car.
trying to estimate fuel loads of the nanosecond when even 1 laps worth of fuel costs you a few tenths.... really?

nothing wrong with trying to predict the grid order but trying to suggest theres anyway of knowing fuel loads and the gap between the teams is just taking a stab in the dark

They said they based their calculations on what fuel levels the teams used last year in testing. Which is a reasonable assumption as the teams tend to run the same levels of fuel every year. Not to mention the fact that they may have some sources who have filled them in on what the teams believe what fuel loads certain teams are running.

Nothing has beaten his excitement of the audio mixer sliders moving themselves (day 3 notebook from last week). I lol'd out loud :)

That was pretty funny

I love the notebooks - with ?'s over Ferrari's and Lotus' reliability for the really top teams

The next couple of weeks are going to be very slow (even the weekend of the Aus GP having to rely on R5Live /delayed highlights is going to be hard)

are the races going to be in 3d or is this just a test of it?

im not a fan of 3d in general but i would still like to see what it looks like with f1.

Totally forgotten that Ferrari set their fastest time yesterday without their final Melbourne spec on the car so could potentially have more to come. Looking good for Ferrari.

This.

As far as inter-team battles go I'm really looking forward to Hamilton vs Rosberg this season. If Nico starts beating Hamilton and Mercedes start putting their eggs in his basket Lewis may well go into full on meltdown mode. How he would handle that I don't know.

None of the teams are in the final Melbourne spec, they will all have differing degrees of upgrades brought to the race.

Still, I think Ferrari look good, as do Lotus, and of course we are all expecting RB have been sandbagging behind higher fuel loads, so fully expect them kicking backside straight out the gate..

It's Mercedes that astonishingly might have actually really made significant improvements this year, but I suspect they may not look so competitive come Melbourne..

smh.. :D
We all know his demons are more off-track then on-track.. all the pundits say Nico's experience in the car/team and decent pace will no doubt mean Lewis isn't expected to beat him initially anyway.. that's probably reduced any pressure to Lewis rather then added to it..

It will be interesting to see but Hamilton just looks and comes across as so much more relaxed and positive.

Yes part of that will be down to the excitement of being in new job and once reality hits home, the shine will be taken off....but I can't help but think that he is taking a long term view and it genuinely excited by the prospects. It might not work out, but you never know unless you try.

He is a better driver than Rosberg, I do not think thats the issue. Getting the Team's support is going to be the hard(er) part and that may have to wait until 2014 when everyone is back on a level playing field.

Just in case:

Yes yes, I do not know the guy and I am guessing a lot of this but he clearly was not happy at Mclaren anymore and I personally think that was a significant factor into his issues off track.

Mercedes certainly do seem to have an exciting line up this year.

I don't think many would argue Hamilton is the better driver. There is still a bit of a question mark over Rosberg, I think is a solid driver and good at usually staying out of trouble, whether he could end up being much more remains to be seen.

I think Rosberg is a good qualifier on his day and Hamilton obviously is, so I can see the pair of them having decent qually sessions.
McLaren on the other hand I think will have taken a step back with qualifying unless Button can find his groove.

I think rosberg has the speed but lacks the killer instinct hamilton has.

He always seemed to cautious in the last few years unless he was racing against schumacher

Anderson:

So, if you adjust, in the manner I have explained previously each driver's fastest time with the number of laps they did on each run and the estimated minimum fuel load that team runs in testing, you end up with list of outright performance from Barcelona testing - and thus, if you like, a predicted Melbourne grid - that looks like this:

1 Rosberg 1:19.730

2 Button 1:19.764

3 Vettel 1:19.797

4 Hamilton 1:19.886

5 Raikkonen 1:19.968

6 Alonso 1:20.004

7 Webber 1:20.113

8 Perez 1:20.348

9 Grosjean 1:20.498

10 Massa 1:20.576

11 Maldonado 1:20.705

12 Bottas 1:20.868

13 Sutil 1:21.247

14 Hulkenberg 1:21.341

15 Di Resta 1:21.464

16 Gutierrez 1:22.353

17 Vergne 1:22.823

18 Pic 1:22.915

19 Bianchi 1:22.967

20 Ricardo 1:23.138

21 Chilton 1:23.903

22 Van Der Garde 1:24.035

Anderson never took in to account that Lewis was on a 6 lap run were as Nico done 1 out--1flyer then in.

I don't think that either of them will be that far up the grid(hope I am wrong).
I would say
Kimi
Alonso
Webber

As much as I like Chilton, he isn't a top driver. Bianchi on the other hand may be being lined up to replace Massa at Ferrari, so Bianchi beating Chilton this season is pretty much expected.
