F1 2013 Testing: Week 3 Barcelona

Question is, do I punt £20 on Hamilton as my bet for this year, at 16/1 :o
 
I was going to put a decent bet on him last week, won't get as good odd's now I would think.

He's apparently gone faster again with a 1:18.2.......... :p lol, no a 1:20.5xx, apparently the previous lap record was Kimi's with a 1:21.67 a few years ago in race.

Was quite interesting to see Sutil do two flying laps(although quite slow) togehter, 1:23.37 and a 1:23.28. I wanted to see if anyone could do a fast lap then another one straight after, afaik no one has done anything but a pretty slow lap after a fast one, just a shame that at over 23's, and not on the car limit its a bit hard to tell if its possible to do more than one great lap in a row.

EDIT:- balls, was going to say that a 1:20.5 could just be a low fuel run improvement over the previous one, so 4-5 laps less fuel and 3/10th's faster, but it would seem there's a red flag, not sure if we'll know if he came in because he was out of fuel or red flag.

I wouldnt think its as simple as that but for all intents and purposes i suppose you could think of them like that, i think they were talking ~.5 sec for each compound over last years equivalant, so that would put it in roughly the same time bracket as last years SS.

That's what Pirelli have said, but remember the track is exceedingly cold which will be slower..

I'm just waiting for RB to blast in a 1:20.0xx or 1:19.xxx now..

Might be worth £20 on Hamilton for the lolz, you never know and it's deffo an underdog/outsider bet..

Lap records are only set in races I think, which remains Kimi's 1:21.670 from 2008.

2010 Qualifying Webber did a 1:19.995, 2009 Button got a 1:20.527.
 
1.20.6 on a 5 lap stint, 3rd lap into the stint.

Again impressive, but nothing comparable from the other teams, so it could in fact be slow relative to other cars

Will be interesting to see tomorrow with Button/Vettel/Alonso, Massa has shown when he wants to he can get pretty damn close to Alonso in qualifying(but also when he's not up for it, that he's a bit poo :p ), Webber is unpredictable, sometimes on top of Vettel sometimes miles off, I'd put money on Vettel going faster tomorrow than Webber today though. Button.... Perez was pretty quick around here in the Sauber last year and over the past test days here he's been more than a match for Button so not sure Button will go faster tomorrow, though that depends on testing programs for today/tomorrow.

I don't think if Massa is pushing 1:22's today, that Alonso will be gaining over a second on top of that, Button I think will gain even less over Perez, Vettel will likely be the "is Merc really that fast" test for tomorrow, if he can't beat Hamilton's times tomorrow, I think that Merc is just ruddy fast.

Hamilton doing a 1:20.6 and again gone on to do several laps, is he still the only guy under 1:22, and he's done 4 laps under 1:21, and I don't think he's done less than a 5 lap run yet.

on f1tests.info the fastest lap is missing, but there is also 5 laps unaccounted for, which can't be 2 runs obviously so even his fastest lap was a 5 lap run, not a 3 lap uber quali run.

EDIT:- force india and Ferrari go 1:21.6's, Sutil slightly faster, Force india hasn't looked bad on pace all week though for Sutil those are very short quali runs, and he's not had much time in that car, have to see how long Massa stays out, still quite a way off Hamilton.

It shouldn't be ignored that essentially only Merc are running what they would deem their fastest driver today, but the gap is still very impressive indeed.

If other drivers are getting faster because of the track potentially heating up, we could potentially see more from Hamilton as well though. Also, surely Merc have more softs than anyone else to really lay down more fast runs than anyone else?

Very impressive times by Lewis but I think he will only get in the top 5 or 10 in the race..
But please prove me wrong :)

To be fair, they'd be saying it's not phasing them anyway. All said and done however, it's good to see a car that will at least compete with Lotus next year hopefully.
