F1 2019 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

Red Bull's Junior program is a bit of a mess at the moment. They've no stand out drivers coming through and none of them have anywhere near enough points for a super licence. They need to replace Hartley with... literally anyone eligible.

Dan Ticktum is currently leading Formula 3. I think they'll give him a place but probably not next year.

Even if he wins the F3 championship, he wouldn't have enough points to get a full superlicense.
He would be able to do testing and free practice 1 sessions though.

He's only got himself to blame for that thought, overtaking 10 cars during a safety car to deliberately crash into someone else. Sounds like a lovely guy. Lets stick him in a team with Ferrucci and watch the carnage.

Putting aside my feelings on Dan Ticktum...

RB Junior don't have anyone in the programme near 40 superlicense points, and it's unlikely after the season results are in. The rules were rewritten after Verstappen entered F1 after a single season of Euro F3 finishing 3rd in the championship. Currently that would now worth 20 points.

FIA are weighting the points so you need a top three overall in F2, otherwise you need a couple of years of very good results in some other top tier national or lower weighted international championship like IndyCar, WEC, GP3 to score enough points.

EDIT : This explains it quite well...

For a team that binned you off twice in a season and treated you like ****, yeah I’d say that’s pretty desperate.

Yet it is extremely rare for a driver to be given so many chances. He could take that as a compliment in a weird way. All he has to do is show he's learned from his mistakes and he's got a good shot at the Red Bull if Gasly doesn't work out.

I really don't see desperation, it's a great opportunity for him. It's miles better than going to somewhere like Williams and 'just turning up'. Kvyat also brings with him some knowledge from Ferrari which Red Bull surely appreciate.

Hence "probably not next year" :)

Yup, incredible show. Honestly, I think he got off lightly, his only real defence is his tender age at the time. Still, no denying he has the talent.

No probably about it. It's a straight no for being ineligible, with a sarcastic laugh to boot.

IMO Ticktum shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a racing car. Period.

Can't imagine the mechanics are happy about that one.

Ferrari are prone to rash decisions, but Vettel out, Charles and Kimi (whilst i appreciate giving Kimi 100% number 1 backing would be interesting) seems a step too far.

Firstly, its not cheap to pay off a multiple WC, Kimi has, realistically, 2 years max left at the top, and Charles is still a risk, although undoubtedly quality.

Actually, the more I think about it, I am talking myself into it being a good thing for Ferrari!

Kimi helps Charles get his head on straight in Ferrari, then steps aside in 2020 or 21 to give Charles the reigns. Only thing is, keeping Vettel to the end of his contract, and dumping Kimi seems a lot cheaper and less hassle.

Could see a Lewis and Charles combination at Ferrari in years to come once Vettel is out of contract.

Kimi to McLaren seems to be a possible option too if he needs a drive next year.

Ocon to McLaren along with some Mercedes engines? :D
Sounds plausible. It's down to Stroll Snr. and co. what they value higher; Perez's Mexican money or Ocons' Mercedes engines. If they see ultimate sense they'll keep both Ocon and Perez and let Stroll drive the trucks between circuits instead :D

I reckon Kimi would rather go back to rallying and NASCAR again, than do that.

Great news for him, not so much for Vandorne, not sure it can be said he had a fair crack of the whip. I heard rumours his car was not being given the same performance or focus by the team whilst they were trying to keep Alonso happy.
